You remove your hat when the anthem is played, when you are speaking to a lady, when you enter a building. Didn’t your folks teach you? Dad,and especially mom, would have whopped me up-side the head for ANY lack of the above!!! Hat over the heart, removed in the presence of a woman, and indoors - were musts! Otherwise - the beatings will now begin !!!

We don’t remove it to show respect for the person that wrote it, we remove our hat out of respect for our country and what it represents
In light of recent revelations involving the theft of an election, what does it represent? The pledge of allegiance is a pledge of subservience to a government. al·le·giance
/əˈlējəns/
loyalty or commitment of a subordinate to a superior or of an individual to a group or cause. No thanks. Completely misguided. Read the f'ing Pledge language and you will clear it up for yourself.
The way life should be.

Stand with your hat removed for the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance unless you're s knucklehead with a f ucked up attitude trying to draw attention to yourself and make a point. Not to be questioned nor debated, just do it if you love your country.

You remove your hat when the anthem is played, when you are speaking to a lady, when you enter a building. Didn’t your folks teach you? That's what I was taught, plus taking my hat off when eating - a bit of etiquette that is apparently lost on about 90% of men. I just don't feel right sitting down to eat at a table with a hat on my head, whether it's the kitchen table or a restaurant table. Makes me feel like Mrs. Sherwood, my elementary school teacher, is going to come up behind me, hand me my hat and give a sharp tug on my neck hairs. 45 years since the last time, but I remember.

The cause of freedom and what America represents is not a lost cause and giving up before the fight is not an option for some of us. Pledging subservience to the government isn't a very good start. If fact, it seems like an acknowledgement that the cause has been lost. In America, the people are supposed to be the government. If you feel the need to pledge allegiance to something, pledge it to yourself. Don't be snookered by a socialist flag salesman. Besides, in America it would be more appropriate for the government to pledge allegiance to the people.
,...but I'm not holding my breath. Maybe you should hold your breath for about a week. You should stick to driving old tractors on your huge spread of about 10 acres surrounded by plastic fence. Your understanding of patriotism is no better than your vision of a ranch. The pledge of allegiance is a defining aspect of American culture that we grew up with when simple appreciation for liberty was taught in schools before we became such a Godless society.
I was thinking the other day how much I used to hate Bill Clinton. He was freaking George Washington compared to what they are now.

I take my hat off when I go into Golden Corral. That sets me way apart from the herd at the get-go. Chapter 11.
A good principle to guide me through life: “This is all I have come to expect, standard lackluster performance. Trust nothing, believe no one and realize it will only get worse…”

I stand at attention for the pledge and also remove my cover at the table. I was taught that if in civilian clothes, you stand at attention for colors until complete then conduct your business. When you enter a building you remove your cover and you don't salute unless covered.

It seems to me there are plenty of respectful reasons to remove ones hat versus wearing one to make social statements or keep the sun out of your eyes. A bad hair day is not a reason to lower ones standards.

The US Flag Code is voluntary, not enforceable by law. Originally it was enforceable but the SCOTUS ruled that it was superseded by the 1st Amendment.

Bristoe has a couple of good points. I'm going to continue to take my hat off out of respect for my parents, grandparents and those who have fought for our freedoms. In our house you don't wear a hat or cap at the dinner table, and most folks hang their hats on the rack like I do when I come inside.
Life is good live it while you can.

Respect for the pledge is not submitting to anything or anybody. It is a sign of Respect for our beliefs as a free nation. To me it also shows respect for those who have fought and or died for it to continue. Thankfully Bristol you live in a country where you are allowed your opinion. Edk
