I have a mauser action with some "slovian" writing....it is marked both 24/47 which I thought was Yugoslav, but on the side is the receiver it's clearly marked VZ 24....what is this action a CZ or a Yugoslav rework? The handle is straight. Not sure if it's original bolt or not.

What do the action screws measure? The 24/47 is shorter than the VZ24. The VZ24 is 7.835"(std 98), the 24/47 is 7.620" center to center.

The 24/47s started out as FN M24s.

I don't always shoot Mausers, but when I do...I prefer VZ-24s.

Only some were FN made, the first 20K. The remainder were converted from indigenously made Yugo M24's.

OP, you sure it doesn't say M24/52c? Where does it say 24/47? On the receiver or barrel? Would love to see this.

It says 24/47 on the breech end of the receiver. Lower and back towards the middle of the receiver it says a slovenian word in CZ like block letters and right beside that it says VZ 24. It doesnt have a barrel yet? I'm about to screw a lothar walther 7x57 mm in it as soon as the GA mail runs. I took the barrel on a partial trade from a member here. I will prolly shoot it a bit to see how the combo does, if it's good, then it gets the walnut stock.

As a side note...I've got a 1916 Oberndorf that I'm shooting now in a modified war stock. It has the military barrel chamber 8mm the only modification I've seen is the action is jet black, it may have been painted. All of the stamping and lettering is there and has been outlined with white. Not hard to see the stampings. This is a weekly shooter for me with the military iron sights which are very good I might add....it has never been drilled for scope mounts..do you fellows know the true value of this barreled action, and will it reduce the value by drilling and tapping for scope mounts. It shoots so good, I'd about like to see what it does with a trigger, safety, and sight upgrade. Be easier to decide about custom barrel? Is there a decent no drill scope mount. I'm having fun these days with the old stuff but I have just limited knowledge..

Thanks
Mongrel

Make sure to measure center to center between the action screws, most likely, you will need a stock for an M48 inlet is slightly shorter.

Hard to say what the 1916 is worth without pics. I'd guess between $300-500 is what it would bring on GB, judging by what they seem to be selling for lately.

I wish I could figure out how to resize photos to fit. I downloaded a photo editor and they are still too large. 97kb is small, I dont know how to get the right size. Previously I thought the limit was 2mb

Precise measurement aside, try that standard length '16 Obie bolt in your CZ action. If it even begins to rotate, you don't have the FN pattern action! I can't imagine it would be the FN intermediate size action with CZ markings short of chopped & welded!!!
Best & Happy Holidays!
