Just wanted to share this information with everyone on the 'fire as I can't really find the information on the internet and I gave myself a brief moment of panic today, lol. I just received a new Leupold VX-3i 4.5-14x40mm scope. Upon opening the package, I was immediately concerned that I received a counterfeit. Reason being, there was no gold medallion on the side of the turret housing like we're all pretty used to seeing. Instead, there was just an engraved Leupold logo. I was concerned it was a fake so I contacted Leupold. They ran the serial number and did indeed confirm that the scope was authentic. The rep told me that they transitioned to the engraved logo "earlier in the year". Their website still shows the medallion on the VX-3i line. I certainly liked the medallion more than the engraved logo, but at least I know the scope is real. Just wanted to share in hopes it eases someone's fears and/or saves them some time.

Looks like more cost cutting. At lot of the changes in Leupold scopes over the past few years have been related to simplification of their product lines and cost cutting.

How was Leupolds wording on the confirmation of it not being counterfeit?
I called them with a S/N felt I got an odd answer that I should have questioned. Roughly their statement; "I see no reason to think your scope is a counterfeit."

They changed it on the Alumina caps too, because they were falling off. Glue didn't track worth a sh*t.

Now that really looks like Chit...I bought my last Leupold a long time ago. For me it's SB or NightForce.

I called them with a S/N felt I got an odd answer that I should have questioned. Roughly their statement; "I see no reason to think your scope is a counterfeit." I provided no details about the scope but mentioned that I was fearful it was counterfeit. He asked me for the serial number, which I then provided. He then rattled off, "That serial number comes up as a VX-3i 4.5-14x40mm with a duplex reticle." That satisfied my curiousity.

Hmm. Not a fan of the new look for Leupold. Glad you started this thread

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

More info for new 2.5-8 buyers: Sportmans had a gold ring sale going in Fairbanks, Alaska. Made the long drive into town to check out what they had. They were kind enough to combine a veterans discount with the gold ring sale. Picked up one of these ghastly scopes to mount on a 416 ruger. Price was $347. 120 rounds of the full snot Hornady 400 grainers in 20 round sessions, the scope is still right on the money. The rifle itself is 7 lbs 11 oz., which is too light for full snot 400 grain. The recoil is fierce.

Judman,
I read some of your recent hunt reports with your 2.5-8 scoped rifles. You sure have put away a good cache of game meat with yours. I enjoy your hunt stories.

Older, discontinued V2's & 3's starting to show up on Ebay at silly prices, especially the compacts. Or so I thought. They might be the end of the good ones.

If I could get an LR Duplex reticle put into my 2.5-8 I’d be using it. Not a fan of plain duplex. Apparently the custom shop is another victim of the current leadership. Another corner..

So how did you hold up?😱
Keep an eye on it. My crossbow scope went TU on my last test shot, the day before the season opened. Luckily, I had a red dot on standby.
Did you, by chance, zero it with the irons before you mounted the scope? Wouldn't hurt.
What fresh Hell is this?

Prm, Little further down the food chain at $200 is the 10 oz Redfield 2-7 with accu range reticule. It's too compact for proper placement on a long action bolt gun, but just right on a short action. Supposed to zero at 200 yds for the crosshair. Group 1 cartridges give hold over marks to 500 yds. Group 2 cartridges like the 270 wsm give hold overs to 600 yds. I'll test mine out and report back to yah.
