They were charged with having 173 crappies over the possession limit. The TX possession limit is 50 fish. I say they were in the wrong state because in ID there is no limit on crappies, perch, cats, and a few other fish. They might not get as big here but there are plenty of them, especially in some of the desert reservoirs in southern ID.
I wonder, though, what would have happened if they'd said they caught them here. The fish cops would have to prove that they were caught in TX, wouldn't they? Does TX have an import limit on dead fish?

If I'm going to jail, it will not be over some crappie. That's just dumb. Why would you run around with a truck full of fish fillets in the first place?

Good lord, if they went to the trouble of filetting that many crappie the pain of having them confiscated would seem to be severe enough punishment.

nah wasn't worth it, I paid half of the 8 hundred dollar fine and had my dr buddy pay the other half since he decided he wanted to keep it, even though i was going to release it.

Fish cops being pricks is a pretty common theme.

Some places are hardly worth launching from. You can get checked by half a dozen departments before you make it out the pass or back to the ramp.

In ID the possession limit is twice the daily limit, whatever it happens to be. Since there's no limit on most of the warm water species, you can fill a freezer with them if you want to. A couple winters ago, my hunting partner was ice fishing on a reservoir 50 miles north of here. There was an Asian guy out there catching perch. He'd just toss them in his pickup to freeze and clean later. The guy more or less kept track and estimated that he had 600 of them. Can you imagine cleaning 600 frozen perch? Shudder! Pat McManus's story about going into a trance while filleting 50,000 bluegills isn't far off.

Seems kinda silly to me. In theory you could catch and eat 25 a day without breaking the law. But you can't save 'em up? C'mon, man.

Heck, lookin' at the picture, that just looks like enough for a nice backyard fish fry. Our sons, "man-boys" as my wife calls 'em, and their buddies can eat some fish fillets.

The cops said they got an anonymous tip. They would have to get a search warrant to look in your freezer. Maybe their wives got really sick of eating crappie.

my buddy took some vets and active duty guys from S.A. fishing they all caught limits, when he got back into the doc the game wardens started f-cking with him, the other guys had to be back in S.A. by a certain time so they left and told Brian one of them come back to pick up the fish when they left the warden charged him for being over the limit for all their fish. they were trying to fine him twenty grand he got a lawyer and fought it. they still found him guilty, but he didn't pay any twenty grand. those f-ckersthat were filming Texas law.

There are several reasons we have no limits in Id (nor Oregon) on cats, crappie, perch, blue gill, etc.

First, they are invasive species here.

Second, these species quickly overpopulate their habitat. Their food sources become scant, and the fish are stunted. The more we remove from the water, the better the population can grow.

Those boys know whats good to eat.

I wish the crappie in Texas would get more plentiful.
