Which would you choose? Accuracy that I would be likely to get from either, appearance, function, extraction and feeding. What about the stocks, wood and synthetic, bedding etc. Thanks for the help and advice.

For me - Ruger and done. Been a Ruger fan since I was 12. Never had issue with a 1/2 dozen I owned or are in the fam.

Never had a Savage that made me excited.

Take that back - I have a M1899 Sav that I'd not sell at any price but that's nostalgia as it was my great-grandfather's meat getter. Bought it new, used his whole life, gave to my father and now will be to me.

I've always been a Ruger fan, initially due to the classic style of the early M77.

After not having one for quite a while, I recently purchased a Lipsey's Hawkeye African.

I don't have may rounds through it yet, but after a fouling shot and one scope adjustment shot, it put the next three into a group you could cover with a nickel. It's a keeper.

Haven't owned a Savage in a very long time, but I hear good things about them. I just think regarding aesthetics that the Ruger is much nicer.

I only have experience with 2 Savage 110/111’s and both are good shooters, 7mm RM and 7x57. Four Savage 99’s shoot pretty well too. None are scoped so I haven’t measured precise groups. Thinking about scoping my .358 with a 1-4x or 1.5-5x . Never got excited about the Axis/Edge rifles. Happy Trails

I’m immune to the charms of modern Savage bolt rifles. Good shooters apparently, very strong and safe, and easy to futz around with changing barrels and such, but the appearance and construction turn me off for the most part. Never had a bad Ruger 77 or Hawkeye. Howas are my choice in economy rifles, though only one or two minor details are a little cheesy.

Foolishly sold one Hawkeye AW to finance a notion of mine, gave a Predator to my son. Kept an AW .223 and picked up a nice factory wanut stock for it. The matte SS and walnut are handsome, to my eye anyway. Didn’t feel that either LC6 trigger needed work; the Predator has an awesome 2-stage.

There's a local Hawkeye African in 280 AI that has my attention and decent price. I just have others on the wish list and the cartridge doesn't grab me at all. Not in that rifle.

For reliability go with Ruger

For accuracy go with Savage

The extractor & ejector on Savages is a crap shoot. It's an easy fix though. Love Savages for accuracy, the accutrigger and 3 position tang safety are good features

Those are very nice, but I have two Mauser .270s and now a nice light .308 as well, so am all CRF’d up.

Hard to find new, nice bolt guns with sights anymore.

Ruger, unless you plan to swap barrels.

I have 8 Savage 110 series rifles chambered in 22-250 (x2), 257 Roberts, 260 (x3), 6.5 CM, and 30-06. I think that they are good rifles, but I would choose my Ruger 77s and Hawkeyes if forced to pick one over the other.

Ruger for me.......have a left hand hawkeye standard that I really need to hunt with. Had to trim the mag box a bit to relieve stress on the action before I could get consistent accuracy, but it's a steady performer now. Shoots better than me.

Never really took to savage.

I've got 3 Ruger 77 bolt guns, and the laminated Hawkeye Predator is one of my favorites. Not really a Savage fan but they will often shoot well.

Savages I’ve shot over the years have been accurate but 99% of all savages built in the last 30-50 or something like that are DOG UGLYYYYY. What is that stupid thing on thebolt or behind the bolt or whatever. Stupid nut thing you can just pull on it and will come off. Why purpose does that stupid the serve anyway?
Most Rugers function good and are built looks tanks. But can the CEO pull his head out if his 4th point of contact. Most of the ones I like you now can’t get them without a stupid ugly ass muzzle brake or some stupid threaded bullshit. Of your choices Ruger for me if you can find one bedsides that ugly azz Ruger American thar doesn’t weigh 15 lbs.

I own a bunch of Ruger M77s and Hawkeyes, zero Savages. I hear the Savages are accurate, but so are my Rugers. My Rugers just look good while doing it. Same can't be said for a Savage.

When I look at the current savage line-up, i scratch my head at the clutter with no ryme or reason. They lack that iconic status and their offerings lack soul. I was really interested in the 338 federal hog hunter, till i handled one. The plastic clip locking in the removable magazine was aweful.

My first rifle purchase was a new Savage 22 semi-auto at 16 yrs of age. Saved my money from haying, picking potatoes and stacking firewood. It always out-shot my buddy Brent's 10/22 and never jammed like his. With its impressed checkering, it look like sht compared to his sleek 10/22

4 years later in the Army, my first bolt action purchase was a bolt action mk ll 223 with boat paddle stock. One hole groups at 100 yds. Never had an accuracy problem with any savage or ruger.

My biggest moose ever taken to date, was with a savage 99 358 winchester. Savage ain't had soul since the 99.

From long gun to hand gun....

Ruger goes everywhere reasonably well. Even their single six and sp 101 revolvers bring me home a hefty cache of small game. Rugged, Investment cast, rough, cockeyed bullsht that even I can afford:

Ruger! While Savages are probably more accurate ( and I own a couple) my Ruger Hawkeye just feels better to me.
