actually had a bud give me his Dads gun...this very nice shape unmolested 1949 (F before sn)...336A in 30-30...… not D&T...no add on butt pad....sling studs not added....and it still has its front sight hood It is missing its rear sight elevator...if anyone has a period correct one for sale I would most appreciate it I took the butt plate off to see if the stock was #ed to gun, nothing there...so then I thought maybe it maybe in the tang area...lo and behold there it was:)...along with the upper tang also being #ed Love these old school guns.... Thanks for any input Al pics link https://imgur.com/a/9DrbLtU

Nice story, great gun. I particularly love these 'elder' Models 336 in original non-tapped "waffle top" configuration! Believe your "rifle barrel length model" is likely the rarer of the sub-models. My favorite 'genre' 336 is the Texan straight grip stocked carbine. It, not coming along until '53 and not many before "waffle" style yielding to sandblast finish & tapping. I'm mainly into 'bolt high power rifles, but small collection and great appreciation for these pre-crossbolt genre, several decades of Marlins. Congrats on your acquisition, especially 'gift' status! Best, Stay Safe & Happy Holidays! Joh

Not to butt in, But I bought a pig in a poke, when it got here 7day's later from MN. Guy's a LGS had it out checking it over. 1949 336 RC Waffle top, Marbles peep, Front globe sight. Wood was 90% bluing about 80%. Not drill and tapped Do not know how wood stayed in the shape it's in not a ding. Will be cleaned and shot today. This gun was hunted with for sure just wish they could tell there story.
Thanks

Thanks Your gun might well be able to tell more of a story... With photos! The old excuse "Sorry, no film for the camera..." Getting a bit dated now, don't you think! Merry Christmas! John
