French police recovered 900 stolen bottles of wine valued at $6 mill. That averages about $6700/bottle. What's in that stuff, anyway? I guess my tastes are too plebeian. I bitch about the difference in price between Busch Lite and Blue Moon.

The attractiveness to a wine that costs $6700.00 a bottle is likely due to the fact that very, very few can afford to spend that kind of money on something to drink. They likely get no pleasure out of having it and drinking it, only out of having something and drinking something that others can’t.

If that’s what it takes for some, more power to em’.

You knuckle draggers wouldn't know the difference between a $6,700 bottle of wine and a good dessert coffee.

Not sure there's even $6700 worth of wine on this whole endcap:

But you could serve a whole wedding party with it for sure.

Wow Ducky,
Didn't know that you were such a sommelier.

When one of my Dad's best friends passed, we were asked to raid his wine cellar. His wife wasn't into it. He had quite the collection. Unfortunately, more than one 4 figure bottle had turned to vinegar. Oh well, Treasures stored on earth and all that jazz.

I’m a pretty serious red wine drinker. But my favorites are all the under $20 variety. Lol. Be interesting to try.
I drink a fair bit of $100/200 bottles at high end restaurants with clients. Good, but not exceptional compared to my usual swill.

When I was working at a big law firm in NYC the Goldman bankers on a deal took us out for a closing party at a steakhouse. They started ordering $10,000 bottles of wine, followed by $3000 bottles of port.

I'm not a wine drinker and while the steaks were great, the wine did nothing for me. The port, however, was really good. Not $3000 good, but good enough to remember 20 years later.

Somebody paid $1.29million for Gretzky’s rookie card.

They aren’t buying this to drink it.

Some folks will buy that and know the difference. For myself, I can tell 2 buck chuck romr a good bottle. Trouble is after $20 bucks I'm not so sure.. And I live in Wine Country.

Even without " the goodies'

that sounds like one hell of a party.

At that time, those days were over. A few years earlier, though and it was common.

I worked on IPOs during the dot com boom and the financial printers in NYC would do anything to get our loyalty (back then, bankers and lawyers spent days living at the printers to finalize prospectuses and the printers were making a lot of money off us). At one printer, the top guy was a classic Italian NYer and he got us whatever we asked for, including hookers, drugs and really high end sushi and steaks.

When women started to work on deals the days of hookers and drugs ended.
