Had a Rodeo like that myself once. Shot a Buck in the Jaw. Thought it was dead. Set my rifle against a tree. When I grabbed him he got up. Managed to get my knees on his antlers and push his head to the ground. He pushed me to the bottom of the hill. I was able to get to my radio and call my son who ran a couple hundred yards and shot him in the neck.

I am a slow learner, I guess. Twice I have had "dead" moose come off the ground when I had approached within a few feet from the front.
Now I come in from the side or rear, and they get an insurance shot to the head from a few yards out.
THEN I do the muzzle to eye-twitch thing, hot chamber, safety off. I neglected that once on a spike bull laying out in about 16 inches of water and muck after the insurance shot, and just parked the rifle against a bush on dry ground 20 feet away.
When I grabbed his antlers to pull his head around to get him back to shore, he blinked...

Me and a buddy was gonna cut a big does throat that been shot in the face with #4 shot. She was laying on the ground what could possibly go wrong. He was gonna put a knee on her neck while I grabbed her rear feet. Riiiight, she kicked the schit out me about 12 times in 3 seconds!

Back when we were yutes and out riding around one evening a doe ran across the road in front of us and didn't clear a fence. She was a bit dazed and a buddy jumped out - decided to wrestle it. As soon as he jumped on her it was clear that he wanted off. Later he swore she had at least ten legs. Beer may or may not have been involved.

I posted here last year about an enormous 6x6 buck that attacked me after I hit it with my truck. Went back to check on the deer and the damn thing jumped up and came right at me. The struggle ended up in a roadside ditch with us both wrapped up in barbed wire and went on for 40 minutes,. Every time I'd get some space between us, he'd advance. Crazed *&*^^ deer.
I finally finished him off with a 2.5" blade leatherman my wife found in the truck. It was as bad as it sounds.
Another reason I always pack heat now.

It's Kentucky.... Us Tn guys would just shoot the fugging thing. Skull cut the rack and donate the carcass.
LOL!!!
Full blown pissed off retard strength....
Have had 3 charge me on ground stand over the years. 2 of em drilled em from the front of the chest all the thru the hip. Traverse the body lenghtwise. Heads up posture closing ground, not in drop head mode yet. Nasty gutting out ...
The other was entrance was on top side of his neck , had his head down so low and picking up speed, basically shattered neck and beginning forward shoulder blade area vertebrae and the spine. All 3 within 20 to 35 ft and after watching em for several minutes prior to em wanting to get dumb and close ground and wanting to charge. None of em older bucks. 2.5 yr old 6pt and 8pts I woulda let walk, but really didnt have a choice.
A ot6 with a barnes 168gr ttsx took care of em.

Approaching a downed deer was covered pretty good in 6 weeks of hunter ed in 6th grade.
Much better choice that co-ed volleyball for the winter six-weeks report card period.
Even though now, people can get this cert in a weekend. Had an outdoor writer and retired game warden and our football coach did the long version of the class.
Rocks, sticks, eye poke.
Only had to drill a #2 round in a couple out of hundred on a walk-up.

Drilled him with a .50 cal round ball in the throat patch.
Deer around here do not react to calls anymore. At all.
