Beautiful red fox daid by side of road about 4 miles south of my house. Somebody picked it up. Got $40 American, cash, once for one I found ded in the road. On the way to a keg party I think. H-Burg PA, 1979. Winter, snow on the road. Asked my buddy in the bitch seat as I passed it. "was that a fox? "yep" "didn't look all beat up did it" "nope" hung a huey and grabbed it. Only one small tear under the right front leg. Skin was in wonderful shape. Left it in the car with the windows down, in a gunny sack from where I worked. Well below freezing so I figured it would keep. Funniest thing, buddy at the party mentioned bringing one he got to a guy that paid cash for them. I asked "do I have to skin it and stretch it? Nope, just brought it to him whole, he tossed it right in his freezer, said he'd get to it when he had enough to make a day's work. I needed the $40 for sure. Drank a lot of beer back then.
