In Texas, State Representative Terry Meza (Democrate-Irving) has introduced HB196. Her bill would repeal the state's "castle doctrine." The castle doctrine allows a homeowner to use deadly force against an armed intruder who breaks into his/her home.

Now listen to what Democratic State Representative Terry Meza from Texas has to say...

"I'm not saying that stealing is okay," Meza explained. "All I'm saying is that it doesn't warrant a death penalty. Thieves only carry weapons for self-protection and to provide the householder an incentive to cooperate. They just want to get their loot and getaway. When the resident tries to resist is when people get hurt. If only one side is armed fewer people will be killed."


Meza was quick to reassure that her bill "would not totally prevent homeowners from defending themselves.


Under the new law, the homeowner's obligation is to flee the home at the first sign of intrusion. If fleeing is not possible he must cooperate with the intruder. But if violence breaks out it is the homeowner's responsibility to make sure no one gets hurt. The best way to achieve this is to use the minimum non-lethal force possible because intruders will be able to sue for any injuries they receive at the hands of the homeowner."


"In most instances, the thief needs the money more than the homeowner does," Meza reasoned. "The homeowner's insurance will reimburse his/her losses. On balance, the transfer of property is likely to lead to a more equitable distribution of wealth. If my bill can help make this transfer a peaceful one so much the better."

The first time I ever heard this exact same idiocy was about 35 years ago when my wife showed me an article from some women's magazine in which Nelson "Pete" Shields was being interviewed in a long article about gun control. Some of you might remember Shields was a co-founder of the National Coalition to Ban Handguns. He was also president of the organization. He's now deceased, no loss.

In the magazine article he stated specifically that people do not need guns for self protection because the criminals only carry guns because they need protection from armed honest people when they rob them. Shields stated if we'd just ban those evil handguns, criminals wouldn't carry guns and would not be afraid of their victims when they robbed them.

The nitwits and numbskulls have multiplied since the Shields days, but their idiocy and stupidity are the same.

Well, I only carry weapons for self-protection and to provide the home invader an incentive to leave peacefully. I just want them to NOT get their loot and go away. When they try to resist is when they get hurt.


Overall, her line of reasoning is about the most idiotic thing I've read in recent memory.

I hope the very next break-in is at that dickheaded woman's home.. Let's see if she 'cooperates' with the thugs...
