Russia hasn't been a real threat to the national security of the US for over 30 years. CHINA has and IS now .They hack computer systems ,including theUS , of other countries thousands of times a day for the past decade.

Cyber space is simply a new theater of operations. And don't think we don't hit them just as hard as they hit us. The only thing is we are the target of several enemies.

I have worked in many very large data centers. The good data is never stored together or in one place. If a system is hacked, they might just be in a copy of a copy with reduced content or accuracy. In my field they were called packaging models. Many times, we would find the parts would not work because they were designed to a packaging model. Many, many memberships were necessary to gain access to the core. Then the data was protected by time/bandwidth and lots of other methods. I am not losing sleep.

No doubt this was a major cyber hack. It's going to cause problems for quite a while. As to who did it, we will have to wait and see what the investigation reveals.

Report I heard was that 6 or more Government agencies were effected, some had been shut down, other could not be shut down.

Ben, do not worry after Janurary 20th President Biden will make new department of cyber security to make you more secure. For a little loss of personal privacy you will be more secure and there will be more job opportunities for Americans in government sector.
