What are some good sources for bulk cleaning patches? Square or round recommended? Any brands to favor or avoid?

I prefer Pro-Shot either round or square.

Brownells usually has a good selection. I prefer square 100% all cotton flannel, packages of 1,000. Pro-Shot also has good patches. Avoid synthetic patches.

I buy white flannel by the yard at Wally World in the sewing and fabric dept. Trial and error to find the correct dimension for caliber. Then I record the correct size on the appropriate page in my reloading log. I cut them square. It doesn't cost much and a little fabric goes a long way. Also save old flannel shirts and make patches out of them. They are especially good for the larger calibers like 44 and 45. Also make good oil rags.
This flannel is not too thick but thicker than an old sheet would be. It's worked for me for years.

Yes indeed, old sheets work well. Wife now hides them from me as I like to use her rotary cutter and ruler with cutting mat..

Old flannel shirts or sheets ripped into strips. Cut or tear off the length needed for a patch.

Wife's pajamas made a couple of years worth. Brownells is not too bad for bulk patches. With different sized jags one size can work for several calibers.

Toilet paper is fine on a P-H Jag. I also cut patches from blue shop towel rolls. GD

I use old t-shirts and a pair of scissors. Also use paper towels cut to size, and have used the blue ones too.
I can cut them to size for 17-50 caliber. I save the white t-shirts for checking copper, all other colors for general cleaning.

Old T-shirt’s from when the pits get crusty. Cut in 2” squares.

You can buy a lifetime supply of white flannel for what two bags of branded cleaning patches run. Cut to fit literally anything.

I second the flannel route if you can find the right weight but VFG pellets are fantastic......a bit pricey but have obsoleted patches for bore cleaning for me.....

A couple years ago I stumbled onto three huge bolts of white flannel at a yard sale - for $6 apiece. Six feet tall x 10 yards long, each. I foisted gobs of the stuff onto anybody who stood still long enough for me to catch them, and still have enough to last me the rest of my life.
The lady who sold them to me said she used the stuff to make backing for drapes or some such application.
