I have only one new, a Remington 141 pump in 35 Remington. Killed a deer with it 2 months ago and it works today as well as it did the year it was made (1941)
But soon I am going to have another upper for my AR10 in 358. Should be a good combo I think. I want to go with the Nosler 225 grain bullets in either Partitions or Accubonds. The sierra in the same weight can be my "practice bullet". Not too bad for a practice bullet as my friend Dan told me he gets good results with that one on elk from his 35 Whelen. But the Noslers will allow me to use it at very close range clear out to the longest practical range the 358 is good for and still give respectable expansion.
I hope to have the upper ready to zero and use mid winter. That’ll be a cool rifle. I’m not a huge Sierra game Bullet guy but their 225 GK is a great one from the Whelen and 358 Win. Haven’t caught one yet in deer and after shooting a bunch into jugs it holds up very well.

I too, am a big 35 fan. I have a 35 Whelen, 358 Norma mag., and a 358 STA.
So far, I have only used the Whelen on game.
I have taken Elk with 250 gr., a Moose with 280gr. SAF, and my wife has taken a couple of Elk with her Whelen using Federal TBBC 225gr. She likes the lighter recoil of the lighter bullet. I have to admit that her Elk have dropped right where they stood. Hmmmm. Nope, I'm sticking with the 250s and 280s...

You just won the looney award. Congrats. Cool rifle! Ha! Didn’t mean to do that. I like the 35’s quite a lot. The Newton was a rebore. Shot fantastic but the 20” barrel was too rough when you started pushing above 35 Whelen loads. I’ve got a 1-9.5 Benchmark and 1-10 Krieger waiting for another action to show up. I’ve got a 700 CDL and 7600 35 Whelen Remington M600 350 Rem Mag BLR 358 Win Got rid of a peach 336 35 Remington that I keep trying to get back! Like JMan and others mentioned, I don’t know if they are better than 3 dozen others but for BG like elk and deer in cover they work real well for me.

've used my 358norma on a couple moose, a caribou a black bear and an interior Grizly. None of them liked it very much. The Grizzly was a 250 gr Barnes original, all the others were 250 Gr Noslers over IMR4350. Super accurate but an handful to shoot. I defiantly don't go shoot a bunch of rounds at the range with it, but when it barks, animals die.

I love my Whelen. It's easily the second favorite rifle I own. 250 grain partitions seem extremely effective.

TheKid. The Ruger 35 Whelen is a tang safety 77R (circa1990). The guy I bought it from said that cartridge came in a RS and a 24" barrel, but he had Ruger sell him one with no sights and a 22" barrel. This but my m77RS with factory irons only has a 22" barrel a Vari X lll 2.5x8 sits in the rings some deer and 2 elk all the gun a man needs. Mb I believe you, Bob. The gentleman I bought the rifle from also gave me a Ruger catalog that showed a 24" barrel for the Whelen. What year manufacture is your Ruger? Roundoak, Nice pic, that one brings alot of memories. I had 3 tang safety 77s at one time. Killed my first buck with a M77 308Win

Lots of 35 love here: ARs in 35 HRT and 357 AR Savage 99 in 358 700 in 358 Norma 98 in 35 Gibbs Marlins in 35 Rem and 356 Win Win 94 in 356 Small Ring Mauser in 35 Rem Dan Wesson and Seville in 357 Max A slug of 357 mag revolvers and even a 357 Sig
My 358 Norma and Dan Wesson will go to the grave with me!!
I've sold a 350 Rem mag (XP-100), 358 Norma (98) , 35 Rem (Contender) and a 35 Whelen (03A3).
I'm sure I'm forgetting 1 or 2. If I find a set of dies cheap, a 35 Newton will be built on the 98 action I have waiting for a project.

The LGS I bought it from had 24 of them and had them sale priced at $289 , he let me lift the lid on a bunch till I found the wood I wanted. IIRC they had cases of RP factory ammo 250 gr rn loads for $8.00 a box. Mb

Some mighty fine 35s here. I love my whelen. It's a douglas barreled MkII loaded with either 225 TSX or 225 Sierra GK, it works awesome on deer and hogs.

When a guy finds a load that meets his needs sometimes it s hard to move on looking for others. My 77rs likes the 225 gr npt even though I have 225 nbt's, 225 sgk, 250 rn Hornady's and 250 speers in my supply. Imr 4320 is my powder of choice but will probably have to find another. Still have some factory 250 gr Rn Rem ammo but I'm not sure why. Mb

Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Dan Gable I keep my circle small, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.
Ain’t easy havin pals.

I really like the 35's. I have 2, a .358 Win and a .356 Win. I have taken deer with both and the results are either bang flop or a short blood trail a blind man could follow. I use them in thick timber or brush country mostly. I have yet to see a smaller cartridge leave the type of blood trail these do.

One weird thing I've found with the 35's I've owned is how accurate they have been. My 35 whelen has been one of the most consistently accurate rifle I have ever owned.
