Best Binoculars up to $800.00...?
My friend ask me to find out what was the best binoculars he could get with up to 800 dollars for his upcoming bear hunt in Montana this coming spring. I am a little confused with there being so many on the market today.
I won't to steer him in the right direction, but thought I better get the opinions of Greater Glass Guys than myself. Thanks so much in advance. Dan

In that price range hands down the Tract Toric, either the 8x42 or the 10x42. you have to spend a lot more money to get better bino's than these.

I’d find a used, clean pair of Swarovski SLC Neu’s.

Ive had a few pair of Swaro SLC's a 12x50mm Leica Trinovids?, Swaro spotter, and an spendy high end Brunton. All but the Bruntons were stolen when my property was burglerized.
Back to binos. Anyway, ive heard and read reviews on the Tract Toric binos and its been stellar. I have looked at the Nikon Monarch7 series and for the money they are really really nice. The Nikon HG series is even more a step up and aboit at the limit of your price point. Today i was just comparing my Bruntons against the Nikon HG 8x42 and a big pair of Leupold 15x56 Santiums. Those Nikon HG binos are just amazing at least to my eyes. Its all subjective and everyones sight is different, but for me i havent looked thru anything that has an advantage for my eyes better than the Nikons. Ive been researching this for awhile and am also in the market for a good pairnof 8x binos. Im getting close tonpurchase and decision time.
Ive heard it said that at the tippy top of the optics hiearchy one has to pay extreme sums of money to gain just a few percentages of performance, some time $1000-$1500 for jist an small gain. I think this is true. Theres some nice stuff out there.

I’ve had my Toric 8x42 for 2 years. I don’t know how you could do any better for the price.

I’d find a used, clean pair of Swarovski SLC Neu’s. +1 on used Alphas. On some rare occasions, they'll fall into this price range. No compromise glass, with full warranty. I found Zeiss 8x42 Victory T*FL's (or even newer model) here for $900 once. They're astounding. FC

If going new, definitely the Tract Toric. Very happy with my 8x42, which has quality glass and is well built. If going used, consider the alpha brands, but might have to wait a while for the right deal to come along for that price, or he can increase the budget some for a better opportunity. But really, just get the Tract.

Call Doug for a great deal on Leica Trinovid 8x42. I did and I’ve been very happy with mine hunting in all conditions. You’ll have to pay a lot more for better glass. I’ve not handled Tract, Meopta, and others mentioned. No need for me. 😎
