I have a Mauser single shot .22 Magnum. It’s a custom gun probably built in the late 60s - early 70s. Fajen stock, Weaver K6. It started to misfire occasionally years ago. It clicks but does not fire. Recock it and it fires. I shot it yesterday and the malfunction is happening more frequently. The firing pin makes a mark on the shell, but apparently not enough. What I need is the contact info for a reliable gunsmith. And would I be able to just send the bolt or would I have to send the rifle? Thanks, Keith

I have no idea about gunsmiths in your area but anytime a rimfire won't fire my first step would be to clean the breech face of the barrel, the chamber and the bolt face. Powder and bullet lube residue in those places can soften and cushion the blow of the firing pin. I would also make sure the firing pin channel in the bolt was clean and dry. Squirt some Gunscrubber or brake cleaner into the firing pin hole.

Good advice. More than half the time rimfire misfired are traceable to gunk.
I'm intrigued. What flavor is this Mauser? Converted centerfire or a Mauser .22 LR upped to .22RF magnum?

Gnoahhh, I have no idea what it was originally. I just know I’ve had it for 40 years and a it’s killed a lot of squirrels and rabbits over the years. I can email you pics and the information on the rifle. I would like to know what it is as well.

Mauser made 22 single shot training rifles to train Krauts to fire Mauser 98's. Another example of the overdoingness that helped them lose WWII.

I especially like the kind of rare repeaters (Model 410 or somesuch).

If a serious cleaning does not clear up the misfiring, perhaps the firing pin spring is fatigued and needs to be replaced. Is the rifle stored with the FP cocked ? If so, that could contribute, over time, to a weakened FP spring.

I'd also break the bolt down completely

Definitely interested in the details of this rifle if they become available.
Gnoahhh I believe that model you’re looking for is the Mauser MS410
It’s difficult to decipher the Mauser rimfire model numbers.
