Was my Highway Patrolman guess earlier close, or what? It was! Unless Kingston has some deviltry afoot! I'm betting it is a .38 or .38/.357 of some sort, most likely a PD dept turn in sold at the local gun store. That farmer was a practical dude, judging by his choice of weapons. An cheap ought six for deer hunting and defensive work if needed. A Wingmaster for most shotgunning chores A 10g to handle any BIG shotgunning chore. A BP rifle for muzzleloader season. A big ol' pig sticker His pistol is likely practical and relatively common.

I've been poking around looking for a short barrel for the 870 Wingmaster Mag. Something blued, preferably vintage to match, smooth bore (cyl-imp). The internet seems pretty picked over. Going about that ass backwards, the day of buying a used 870 barrel cheap is done and gone. Go find used beat up 870 express with a 26" barrel that is old enough that it has the circular spring steel magazine spring retainer.now go find a 10 rd mag extension and put it on. Or just put the 870 express 26" barrel on your wingmaster for a short. Sell the rest of the 870 express to some one who has an extra barrrel. It works easier this way than trying to just get an extra barrel at a reasonable price. Mb That's a great idea, Bob. Thanks LD the thing is a 26" express barrel has dull finish with a 10 rd mag extension it ends about a 1/4" past the muzzle, higher cap is more important than a shorter barrel and you don't ruin it for resale. All 870 expresses come equipped with a modified rem choke easy enough to go buy a skeet tube for buck ,slugs or ball yet maintain it's ability to perform normal abilities. Kingston's 870 is the mag model it would be stupid to cut down that barrel. Fact is if he don't wanna go the Express route an after market barrel is another possibility. Lot a things a guy can do before getting stupid and sawing off the barrel of a collector gun. Collector gun? yup at a gun show 3 weeks back saw one just like Kingston's only a 30" modified with VR sell for 595. New one if you can find one with a rem choke barrel is 750 -800. Lot a cop cars have riot guns in them you would be amazed at how many of them are mossberg 500's or a version of the 500 availible used for 150- 300. Mb

His pistol is likely practical and relatively common. It's none of these!

I'll go with a pre-Model 10. His pistol is likely practical and relatively common. It's none of these! while that pre-Model 10 might not be relatively common, it is "practical" in many ways. But Kingie says it's not either of the two qualifications. I've got to believe it's some sort of oddball hard to find ammo for chambering, made in relatively few numbers. Something in a .32 S&W or .38 S&W short?

You guys will never guess. It's awesome. Starting to sound like Travis now. He mostly reserves the "awesome" word to describe himself and his golf game though. Am I getting warmer with the oddball chambering idea?
