I've got to admit it's the boring old .270. Although I'm adding a new .260 to my lineup for next year. The second rifle is to take care of my son. I have a notion he'll grab the .260 leaving me with the .270 unless I hunt during the week while he's in school.
dave

Reminds me why my Dad let me buy a Remington 722. He wanted to use his own rifle. I always got home before him.
I like those .260s, I've got two now, a rifle and a carbine. But I think of it as the smallest BIG game cartridge.

Hi Guys I just wandered over from the turkey forum, saw this thread and had to put a plug in for my all time favorite whitetail caliber.
I have hunted with nothing but a .308 for the past 20 years, the first was a custom Mauser that I customized myself, and now I use a Remington 700.
Just my 2 cents.

At the present I own three different deer rifles (270,7mm-mag, and 7mm-08) and since the 7mm-08 is the newest and lightest to carry (Rem. 700 Mountain Rifle) it's my favorite. I just got it during the season and haven't had time to work up but one hunting load (40.5gs IMR3031 w/Hornady 139gr. SST (max)) but I did get a doe with it. I shot her at about 50yds with a quartering shot. The bullet went in behind one shoulder and came out just in front of the other, and dropped her where she stood. The SST's have worked perfect for me this yr.

Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.
When your ship comes in. ... make sure you are willing to unload it.
PAYPAL, sucks and I will never use them again. I recommend you do the same.

I think the perfect caliber for whitetails is the 25-06 Remington and I use it a lot. But my favorite is the 220 Swift.

So far, this is the oldest I've ever been. Some days you're the dog. Some days you're the hydrant.
