SPOILERS: Coastal Carolina v Liberty

They say that if you watch a football game, you'll see something that you've never seen before. That was certainly true of the Liberty v Coastal Carolina bowl game. Here's the scenario: There's less than two minutes to go in the game and the score was tied. CC had no timeouts remaining. Liberty had the ball inside the CC 10 yard line. Liberty was concerned that if they scored immediately, CC might come back to tie up the score again, so they wanted to burn up as much clock as possible and kick a winning field goal as time ran out.

So Liberty handed the ball to their running back who took a step forward and stopped. CC realized what was going on, so they just stood there, hoping he'd score a touchdown so CC would get the ball back. The running back and the CC defenders stood there looking at each other for a moment, then CC realized that the clock was ticking so they finally tackled the runner where he stood.

If that wasn't weird enough, on the next play Liberty hands off to the running back, who takes a couple of steps forward. But this puts him too close the the CC defenders, who grab the runner and try to pull him into the end zone. The running back is trying to stay in the field of play and is pushing backwards.

Now is when it gets really weird. One of the Liberty linemen forgets the plan and lets his normal instincts kick in and tries to push the runner into the endzone, where he doesn't want to go. This causes the runner to fumble and the ball is recovered by Coastal Carolina, preserving the tie and sending the game into overtime.

Liberty blocks a field goal in overtime and wins the game.
