I am looking at replacing what I have. The ones I had never went off and I'm still alive. But I know that doesn't mean they worked. I seem to recall this topic has been discussed in the past. I remember some guys tested theirs by placing them quite close to a car exhaust pipe - and they didn't read anything. Anyway, I'd like to find some good ones. What is recommended?

Are you on natural gas or other open flame heat source?

I had a Kiddee.

Was ok. Eventually I pulled the batteries out of it. All that beeping was giving me a headache.

I have the ones that are fire/CO combined. Built in batteries good for 10 years - then throw them away and get new ones with better technology.

Natural gas. Gas furnace and gas hot water heater. Also a gas (heat) type stove in both the basement and on on the main floor. So when everything is running (and the stove flames are turned out to 25,000 BTU, I'm running about 170,000 BTU.
