Thanks fir sharing. JB has given me some good advise which I followed on loading for a 450/400. It worked out great and I took a deer with it just a few days ago.

The great thing about MD is the variety of rifles/calibers he has experimented with. His info spans a lot of what is out there. Unlike some who build the same platform repeatedly shooting the same bullets. He grabs stuff off of the rack and goes to work to understand and learn. GreggH

Excellent read - as to John, I feel that he never starts out with a preconceived notion to get in the way when experimenting.

I must concur with the article. I like those guys listed, especially Finn and our own mule deer. Based on John Bs writings I have gravitated to pump action rifles, the Savage 170 in 30-30 and a 760 Remington in .300 Savage. Their writings on what they experience rather than parroting myths like some others has been helpful. The fact that John often answers members here personally is a huge benefit.

I'm all for the endorsement of John but Petzal Dick is for the most part a dreadful gun writer IMO

"John does his own research." This says it all, you've got to respect the work the man puts in to know what he's talking about.

I mainly like curmudgeon Petzal’s writing because he’s a funny smartass, but he can also write some good, serious stuff. Comments are good, especially the one about boring out a 30-06 to a .35. Whoa!

As well as JB I never fail to read anything by John Havalind, Brian Pierce, and Phil Shoemacker and a bunch petzal mentioned. Occasionally read Dave Sco to see what he claimed to invent and LJHoots to see if he is still an idiot. There of course others I read that are no longer with us. Mb

I was thinking that as bad as the rifle shot as a 30-06, rechambering to 35 Whelen wouldn't improve accuracy any.

Petzal’s a hoot. Makes the short list of gun scribblers I’d like to meet someday.

I like Petzal's writing a lot. He's very good at what he does. A worthy F&S editor.

Love Petzal. Much experience abetted by a sarcasm and wit that I can truly relate to. And his observations on gun writers, especially our own Mule Deer, I can totally support.
