Good day all from the somewhat surprisingly mild frozen north.
Last week I picked up a 1899/250-3000 with the checkered trigger, wind gauge rear sight, perch-belly stock and about 85% original wood finish, all # matching and two boxes of Silvertip ammo.

Now for the problems that my $800cdn got me. I knew it had been re-blued so when I got it home found the rotor stuck/gummed up.I got it free and released about 3 notches of spring tension. Obviously was
taken apart for the blue job which also included the lever! Now when I dummy load it, three rounds and the rotor binds up. Where in my limited skills do I look for the cause?

Serial # is 1728XX for anyones data.

Did you actually remove the rotor from the gun?

Make sure the spring is installed correctly. There are tabs on the end of it that should engage a small hole at each end.

The rotor itself may be binding on the receiver. Look for wear spots on the rotor head.

Do you still have too much tension on it?

These are tough problems to solve sometimes.

Take that sumbitch rotor outa there and vaccuum all the fir needles outa the hole. Oil da schit outa ever thing and put it back in, put 1 1/2 turns a tension on the rotor spring and get back to us.

Thanks Mike and Roy!
We're back in action again. Removed the rotor and no crud, needles or dimes fell out. The problem was pretty obvious once I had it in my hand. The small rearward skeg shaped guide on #2 cartridge guide had been heavily handled probably on re-assembly from the blue job many years ago.One portion of the leading edge was bent upwards not allowing shell #2 to go into battery and then didn't have clearance against the inside of receiver wall. Bit of gentle tweaking and back to loading and feeding 5 rounds as well as my other three 250's do. .

The young guy I got it from had got it from an older family friend who had said he hadn't shot it much since it was re-blued. The two boxes of Winchester Silvertips had a price of $11.99cdn so going by my aged memory would likely have been late 60'-70'.

Thanks again, now maybe it's worth $850.
