On a Hornet I'm surprised that the little Leupold isn't adequate. I have one on my Sako vixen and it is the cats azz for out to 300 yards. I doubt you'll find much that will look right on the rifle and give you much improvement.. Mine is sharp and clear.

i have an diamond back HP 2-8x 32. It isn't very large but i think gives a good sight picture. They were discontinued a while back but were marked down pretty cheap. I think i paid $150. Ended up liking it so much i wish i got a 4-16 for my 223. Luckily i found one a few months ago
This model has an adjustable parallax so if you are shooting under 50 yards or past 100 you can adjust it as needed. Sometime i shoot at a 25 meter range so it is nice i can dial it down
You can still find them from time to time

my 22 Hornet Ruger has a 3x9 Leupold on this rifle but i am thinking about rescoping this rifle with a illuminated scope because i have to kill critters in the dark out in the country plenty at my home . this rifle has turned into my killer rifle , sits by a window in the garage all year long and has just a little more punch over my 22 mag.

Though I don't have any experience with them, the SWFA ultralight 2.5-10x32 rimfire scope looks very good for this application. Those SWFA aficionados can reply with experience. I am sure looking at one for a lightweight setup I am putting together.

I don't think Leupold is making them any longer, but the VX-3 2.5X8 is purt near perfect as far as I can tell. Last fall any prairie dog within 300 yards got a nasty surprise with that combination.
