I think you should go and buy a Nightforce scope.

You did okay. Saved yourself from your scope going bad on your next hunt.

Just think of this way.

True, but you had the unprotected sex last year.

My dog and one of my kids just looked at me with that look, as I was literally laughing out loud.

Too funny!

I do have information, on good authority, that umbrellas do not work as parachutes. I don't know how that relates to your question except to just maybe expect an alternate outcome....

This is the OP. Yes, I realize it was really dumb, and probably even worse to post it!

Just for the sake of discussion, why did no one call form dumb when he said he tests that way? it seems lots of us respect his experience and if he is willing to test his optics like this before he trusts them then why aren’t more of us?

Again, this was a drop test onto a padded shooting mat, not throwing it on the rocks or intentionally trying to destroy the scope.

With that said, I won’t be doing it again. Besides, if I wait long enough, I might slip on an icy mountain and the scopes will get dropped tested naturally…

No plans the test airbags intentionally. That testing Has been done. I wonder how much we are Scope testing has been, though.

And if it matters, as I reflect on my act of stupidity with this drop test, maybe I was just curious about how well my scopes stay zeroed because my scopes sometimes get knocked around a little worse than a short fall after having been leaning against the truck.

I try not to abuse my gear, but my scopes have been on and bounced around on four wheelers in Idaho, Alaska and Texas. Horses in Montana and Idaho. Lots of snow machines in Idaho and Alaska.

Boats and rafts, freshwater and salt water. A trip to South Africa (where a “proven” scope lost zero in transit) and about 240 days hunting in Alaska plus scouting and camping. I don’t mean to sound like I’m bragging, i’m just saying that my scopes may get used more than someone who just watches a food plot.

I just thought this test might tell me how well my scopes hold zero before I take them out.

But I won’t be doing it again :-)

First up, any man who cannot laugh at himself has no business laughing at others...you are good to go so don't sweat it.

Second is that the rest of us are just seriously pleased it wasn't us with our nuts caught under the toilet seat.

Okay...except for Stick, I am pretty sure he dangles his intentionally.

Some guy on YouTube beats mounted optics with a filled water bottle; whomps the Hell outta them. Only watched one, on a prism sight. Probably not a good idea on the ends of a regular scope.
