It takes me an average of 9 minutes to get to the creek, from the house. I hooked fish on the first three casts and was promptly used in succession. Nothing appeared better than 12-ish lbs or so and all were chromers.

With you in mind and following or recent yack session on the phone,I went to the creek armed light,in lieu of my usual penchant to set hooks hard enough to break necks and reel in dead fish(grin).

The water was a smidge low,but clarity was what I'd term as perfect. All three fish acted as if they had cattle prods arcing in nether regions and were absolutely explosive. What a hoot! They all headed for the salt and I enjoyed the short ride while it lasted and lost copious amounts of 6lb test Maxima Chameleon. I definately came in second,as I couldn't turn them with my itty-bitty tackle.

I might just put on my game face and stroll back down there armed with a 1pc Loomis and a 4500C spooled with 12lb Chameleon and wage war on the dirty bastards.

Just thought you'd get a yuck at my incompetence, especially as it were your "fault"(grin).

Regards......................

elim,

I'm actually about a 1 minute walk from the nearest Steelhead creek, but the one I favor is actually a 9 minute drive.

Things could be worse..............

'Goat,

Good to hear that you get to come back up and play(stay).

The kids are tear assing around with the Easter Basket Thing and after the egg roundup,I'll head back down with more serious rigging and put some chromers on the bank. Will try to remember the dig camera so as to keep your Northbound juices flowing.

I believe Spring has sprung and the ball is startin' to roll..................

Pak,

Preparing for the Easter Massacre!(grin)

[Linked Image]

This is one of the rods I was yacking about. It is a 1pc Fenwick graphite and is actually one hell of a bunch of rod for the loot. I think it was $59-ish bucks at WalMart and rates a screaming bargain in my estimation. They had longer/heavier 1pc casting rods and I grabbed some of them too,at the same price. The model designation is "Venture" and this one is a 6'6" spinning rod rated for 12lb test. I bought a quiver full while South and now wish I had purchased more. Found a new Shimano Sahara 2000FA in a closet and spooled it with 30lb test SpiderWire. Will bloodknot on about 3' of 12lb test Chameleon and get serious.

Imagestation sucks,as I can't Post a picture of the size I wish,to yield details. Anyhow, the maribou jigs pictured are actually fairly lethal and are 1/8oz and smaller, all wearing Gamakatsu's(heap big important IMHO).

I like a bobber stop and employ a sliding bobber. Others favor alternate methods, such as the typical clip-on bobbers or even balloons. Nice thing about a slider is that adjustments are quick/easy and line strength isn't compromised, though SpiderWire is slickery and the stop may move a little on you.

Actually,I disfavor SpiderWire, but it is a joy to fish light rigging with as it has zero memory and a guy can pitch light stuff a half mile if conditions warrant that approach. Mono(that means Maxima Chameleon to me),is my true love, but for breaking necks the braided fancy stuff has it's niche.

Don't know if you can see 'em or not,but the 1" grubs wearing the maribou skirts are also highly effective. I like a sliding bullet nose sinker(same as a guy would yank Largemouth with),as they are pretty easy on line and don't rob lure action. I generally opt about a #6 Gamakatsu in those babies and a guy might get busted off when fishing real light, but they'll seldom spit it on you.

Gonna go unleash my fury on Round Two and with my luck, about the only thing I'll roll is skunks. But hell,I've been skunked before. I'll take pictures of anything foolish enough to be enticed and would bet the farm that he'll make it to the bank(grin)...................

Stick, Best that I can counter with is that I went clam digging yesterday. A low tide, good flying weather and a kitchen pass make for an ideal outing. Digging for razors takes me back to when I was about 8yrs old when battling the wiley clam was the most fun a kid could have. You went fishing with 6lb test? You would be drummed out of the bass fishers hall of fame. Thos guys fish 5lb fish with 20lb line and a rod siffer than a wedding d***. They can really yank 'em out of the water. For those bass the transformation from H2O to dry land is instantaneous "poof". Please post a pic. Thanks, pak

Stick,

Nice looking outfit!

What did you mean by...

...does that mean you'll add three feet of mono to the end of the line? Is that help tie off the jigs?

I haven't fished a river in years. It was my favorite fishing in Kodiak, but Sitka just doesn't have any good rivers.

I like those Shimanos, but favor the rear drag models. I also like the ones with the 'trigger' for slipping over the bail. Probably not the 'expert' set-up, but it worked for me.

pak,

You hit a funny bone with those bass fishing guys!

I've always wonder why the act like their fighting a marlin on 30lb test, then at the end, just yank the durn thing up on the boat with the pole and line.

Of course, I may not understand, as these are the same guys that launch a $50,000 bass, complete with 225hp engine, run for an hour down some lake, just to fish 3 feet off some guys backyard dock. Why don't they just drive?

BW, i suppose the 3ft of maxima is so he doesnt have to tie directly to the jig with the high vis braided line.

Stick, no pink worm for use with the jigs???
