I would really like to pick up a Remington 673 in 350RM. Right now I have a Ruger M77 Ultralight in 30/06, M77MkII in .338wm and a Winchester Model 100 in .308. I love that Ultralight (only 5'8")and with Hornady's have been fortunate enough to drop everything (whitetails) with one shot. The .338 is just as accurate. Was hoping you guys could give me some reasons why I "need" that 673! And maybe a little about the performance of the 350RM.
Thanks,
Dave

NEVER and I mean NEVER try to deny your "NEEDS" when it comes to guns. A guy could go blind. Good looking rifles and a great caliber. I don't have a 308 but I have the 30-06, 300 Win Mag, 338 Win Mag, 350 Rem Mag, and 375 H&H. See how that works a place for everything and everything in it's place. A guy NEEDS a 35 Caliber rifle. laugh

I can't think of one single good reason to need a 673, but then again I am no fan of it (as if you couldn't tell...grins)

Get the Ruger M77 mk II .350 rem mag, I've heard it shoots. The only advantage for you to a 350 is the recoil is milder than the 338, and pushing 225's @ 2700, the 350 is enough gun for all AK game.

The .350 is an absolute stomper on both ends...especially in a light weight rifle like the 600s it was introduced in. I had one and it was one of the most unpleasant rifle that I have ever fired, BUT it was quite impressive in terms of killing power. I think that if one had a short action with a long magbox, like the MRC short action, it would be hard to pass on the .350 as a brush gun in areas where bears are...

By all means pick one up, especially if you're partial to the rib. I've got a .350 700 Classic, and, for an out-of-the-box rifle, it's a tack driver. Don't let people scare ya on the recoil - it's quite manageable - about that of a 35 Whelen, less than a 300WM. And, it's all business packed into a short action.

The .350 is one of the best cartridges out there. They don't kick as others seem to say, but to each their own. For me they don't kick at all. Short, light, quick package that quickly dispatches game in a rifle that's easy to carry and shoot. And doesn't weigh a metric ton. What isn't to like? It's a no brainer.

The 350 kills like a 338 and kicks like a 30-06, I have a 673 in 350 and it's a pretty neat gun. If you like it,go for it. The 200 grain factory load is a real killer on deer and hogs and should work fine on elk( but I haven't used it on elk ). When elk hunting with a 350 I have used 225 Partitions and 225 Bearclaws.

I had an African P.H. tell me that a 350 with good 250 Swift A frames was a great all around load that would do just fine for cape buff, similar loads are proven to be effective on big bears.

There are very few species in the world that can not be hunted with a good rifle in 350 mag.

Because you want one is all the reason you "need"!! smile

Heck, I have a variety of medium bore rifles: .30-06 (I consider the .30-06 a medium bore), 8x57JS, .338 Win Mag, .35 Whelen, 9.3x57, 9.3x62, and .375 H&H. Obviously, I don't "need" all of them but I simply enjoy owning and shooting them. That's reason enough!!

Here's one reason for a .350 Rem Mag when you already own a .338 WM:
I don't own a .350 Rem Mag but my .35 Whelen and 9.3x62 are very similar. I find the .35 Whelen and 9.3x62 to be very "friendly" in their amount of recoil compared to my .338 Win Mag. The .338 WM isn't bad but the .35 Whelen and 9.3x62 are more enjoyable to shoot. A 250 gr or 286 gr bullet at around 2400 fps just gives a nice gentle push in recoil. (I'm talking about my actual handloads that I use in my .35 Whelen and 9.3x62.)

My two cents... Cheers!

I'm not sure where people get the idea that the 350 is a horrible kicker. I've got three and certainly find it more pleasant than my 338. A very effective round IMO.

Why do you need one? Life is short and it's cheaper than going to Dog Fights with Mike Vick.

With all of the usual disclaimers in play, I load my .350 Rem. Mag.with 58 grs. of R-15 and push .250 gr. Hornady Interlocks through a 22 Lilja barrel and routinely get just an elk hair under 2600 ft./sec. I personally believe that this is a pretty darn good elk load. CP.

Except that I am POed that Remington made the 673 so heavy when compared to the original 600 and 660; the 673 is a nice rifle and the .350RM is a fine round.

Dave, If it twere me I would dump either the 06 or the 08 and keep the other one, Keep the 338 and get me a 223 or 22/250 and be grinnin. 350 ain't gonna do anything that 338 won't.

The 600 in original form was a bad stock design for recoild mgmt.

The round itself is "moderate" in the recoil department in a 7.5 pound rifle with a good stock.

I have the 673 in the 350 Rem mag & 308. Really like them both. They go along with my 35 Whelen, 358 Win Hawkeye, 358 Win Semi Custom Remington 700 SA and my Marlin 336 35 Rem. I think the 35 caliber covers everything I want to hunt in the USA. Ken

..that's funny...to me at least the stock design on the M600 is excellent for absorbing recoil... The M600 .350 is my favorite hunting rifle. With a 1.5-5 Leupold in Weaver mounts the gun weighs 8 pound 2 oz...not any light weight but it has excellent balance.

One question I am going to ask is how are you going to be hunting with this rifle? If you plan to do a lot of walking and still hunting with this .350, you may want to look at the Remmington M7 CDL. It is much lighter and shorter than the M673.

It is my understanding that Remington is discontinuing the M673...you can find them for $100 under what used to be wholesale...

I own a Model 7 CDL in the .350RM, Recoil on the Bench, Not any more noticeable than My 8x57 or 06. Not as much as a 12ga. Turkey Gun. Shoot it one Handed, and I'm a little Guy.
