I need to use some cold blue. Which gives the best overall results?

Cold blue is usually best applied to warm -to-the-touch steel. But warming the metal isn't strictly necessary.

Buy em all and test em all on the piece of steel to be used.

Oxpho is not as dark as it is tough. Sometimes a wimpy dark like Dicropan, and then if fills the grooves with wimpy black. Then Oxpho get rubbed in hard and covers the ridges. Oxpho does well left under a coat of oil overnight.

I often have good luck with G96

I haven’t tried it, but say a video where the guy applied browning solution first and then used Oxpho and supposedly got a very deep cold blue finish!

That works great. Another trick is to heat up the parts that you are going to blue as well. Not super hot, a little heat helps though..

Thanks to all for the input. I cold blued my Inglis High Power with Oxpho-blu. The finish had already been stripped. I heated it with a blow drier and applied 4 coats. I slathered it with Eezox and let is sit over night before wiping the excess off. I installed new springs and have black VZ slim pro grips on the way.

I use oxpho-blue also and have been pleased with touch ups and small parts. I have not done a whole weapon. Nice looking Inglis, looking for one myself.

I no longer use anything but oxho-blue

I prefer classic.

I go over it with 0000 steel wool lightly. I am trying Nu Blue and it looks good but doesn't like higher chrome alloys.
