Any of you guys like DC Talk? their Jesus Freak song is one of my favorites.

I suppose that the context of the way its used dictates whether it offends me. The image that comes to mind most commonly for me though is that of a hippie and a VW bus. Anyway, I understand how you generally don't like the term.

I agree, the context in which it is used is important. I too like DC Talk and if you listen to the lyrics and understand youths modern vernacular, then the term Jesus Freak is meant as living your whole life for Jesus and thats a good thing There are also a couple of books entitled Jesus Freaks that are really the modern-day equivalents of Foxes Book of Martyrs. When I see that term, I dont hold any negative connotation, I really think of it as someone who not only knows Jesus as their Lord & Savior, but also lives every moment of their life to glorify Him no matter what someone may think or no matter what trouble may befall them for that belief.

Jesus Freaks were just the hippies that got saved in the late 60s and 70s. I remember them well. Most new believers exhibit a lot of unfocused enthusiasm when they first get saved--understandably so. The hippies enthusiasm just cam out in a manner consistent with personae. The negative thing I can think about the hippie attutude being brought into the church was the Christian folk music scare that parallel the more general secular folk music scare of that era..............................

Objection noted. Over ruled. May we move on?

Has anyone here called you a Jesus Freak? Then why preach to the choir?

Take your issue to those you feel offended you. This is America, or what's left of it. We still have some degree of free expression. Like it or not.

Do I like going to the beach and seing a size 24 with a cheese grater cellulite a$$ stuffed into a size 6 bikini?

Hell no. Is there anything I can do about it? Hell no. Do I come here and P&M? Hell no.

Um Ram,

This is the place to talk about topics such as this. You're certainly free (and welcome) to weigh in as you please, but why squelch a topic that someone felt was important enough to raise?

Do you want somebody to jump in on a thread you start and sarcastically demand that it be dropped? Heck no. You never know why somebody might ask what appears to be a pointless question. Patience and understanding count for a lot--especially in this forum.

Um Waders?

Topic important enough to raise????

JoJo was obviously "fishing" with his open ended, low detail comment. I woulda though a guy called "Waders" would know "fisherman" when he saw (read) one.

Guess not.

I think your more concerned than JoJo, the post is like 3 weeks old and he never came back to check his "bait".

3 weeks old and people are still discussing it. Again, there is no value in crass attacks and demands to "drop it." You're free to make the suggestion, but I'm free to disagree with you and further point out that perhaps your decorum fell a little short. No biggie, let's move on--either with this thread or some other.

Earlier I posted but I think I didn't make it permanent. Oh well.

The day I posted this I was thinking that people who are NOT believers are the freaks. I was right in the middle of going head to head with a militant atheist who had me cornered. The lions were out and I was at work without my Bible.

Anyway, I guess now I am just asking you guys to pray for freaks who don't know Jesus (as opposed to us Jesus Freaks - LOL). I know He came into the world for sinners, and I know I am one.

Have you ever met an atheist who reminded you of yourself?

It's scary.

Waders;

I see no "demand" from anyone ordering anyone to "drop it".

I said, Objection noted. Over ruled. May we move on?

Days passed and no one responded, to me that's a dead issue, but like Lazzurus, here it comes again. Well not really. Are we discussing JoJo's comment? No. What your doing is casting stones....at me.

You Christians have funny eyes and ears. You see things that aren't there, and here things that are never said. If your gonna attack me, at least get the facts straight will ya?

hey ram:

haven't seen your handle in a while. things going OK in new hampshire? we're having a stormy but beautiful spring here in alabama.

a sentence you used in your reply to waders was way interesting, and pegged the irony scale to maximum.

you wrote: "you Christians have funny eyes and ears. You see things that aren't there, and hear things that are never said."

we Christians are supposed to have eyes and ears like that. dig these verses from 1 corinthians 2:9-10:

9) "no eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him" - 10) but God has revealed it to us by His Spirit.

the apostle paul was quoting isaiah 40:13 with the "no eye ... who love him" passage. the Holy Spirit provides instruction through our interior eyes and ears; our non-physical heart as it were.

i realize your reference to waders had to do with misinterpretation of a post, but the irony is there nevertheless. cool.

hope you have a great spring and summer.

abiding in Him,

Hey Fish;

We up here are still mourning the loss of the "Old Man", and sides are debating what to do about it.

Fourtunately the "Nature created it, nature took it away" side seems to be winning the arguement. The touri$m side is seeing the lost revenues and favor rebuilding???? or replacing with a fiberglass facsimle!

Nice to hear things are well in the South.

Hi RAM,

I think your first post, especially light of your second post, could fairly be interpreted as a demand; but you say it's not, so it's not. Fair enough. My point remains the same: why attempt to squelch discussion? People come here to chat. I find it puzzling that you don't want people to talk about a particular subject. Jojo came back, so it would seem that the thread was not "bait." Even if it was, good discussion can flow from "bad" topics. Let the discussion run it's course and then naturally fizzle. My suggestion was/is simply to be polite and let people talk about the topics raised. That's all. No hard feelings. No stones thrown.

Anyway, I hope you're enjoying reading in this forum. Keep chiming in!

I've thought about this term too....its a bit unsettling to think about regarding how it possibly could be glorifying God. WWJD about this label? We know our faith and identity w/ Him will bring about persecution. Expect it. Rejoice in it, as a compliment...and a blessing to be counted.
The mere dictionary definition indicates a freak as an "abnormallity" or something not normal or common. Normallity in this life, according to being "of this world"...gets you eternal death!
The path and gateway to eternal life is narrow, and few find it!
Perhaps they are the "freaks" .
A freakish thing happened to me...and I count it as a blessing. I dont tell or advertise to excess that I am a freak....only where the Holy Spirit leads me to share. Where we deny being in Jesus Christ, He will deny us.
Pure Obedience to Him, His word, His will, His truth......is less common in this day and age. A freaky thing indeed. Its a Good/God thing.

Keeping a tight reign on one's tongue (James 1:26) and letting one's gentleness be evident to all (Phillippians 4:5) ....is a challenge to many of us. Indeed, if I am not in God's Word....His word is not in me.
Blessed are the poor in Spirit! In His service, sparkman.

The term Jesus Freak doesn't do much for me either. Jesus wasn't a freak, and neither am I. The term Christian was first used as a derogatory term. Baptists didn't call themselves Baptists, they were called that by the people who disagreed with them, and so on and so forth.

The phrase that cranks me up is when someone describes me as religious. Man, I WAS religious before I got saved! Cain was religious. He took an offering to the Lord, and God didn't accept it. It's like taking your own righteousness to God as a way to get into heaven. God won't accept your righteousness. He is looking for HIS righteousness which you receive as a free gift from his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 10:2-4 "For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth."

Religionist go about to establish their own righteousness. THEY are the freaks. Us born again folks, regardless of our other problems, and we sure do have 'em, are the normal ones.

Rant finished. Praise the Lord!

"Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life." (Prov 4:23)
