The technician I talked to kind of laughed and said he probably fielded more such questions about .30 165 BTHP's than anything else. He told me the bullets were designed for optimal expansion at long range where velocity has dropped off substantially not up close and personal.

Thanks for that bit of knowledge. Good to know.

I may switch over to good ol' Core-Lokts because my shots are typically under 100 yards.

I have used the Sierra 140gr bthp bullet in my 270 win very successfully on deer. They shot well in my Cooper 52, so I tried them one Fall. Killed 2 larger Buck deer with 2 shots and not any more meat damage than any other bullet ever used. My favorite bullet for the 270 is the 150 gr SBGK. Many dead dear and elk with that bullet.

I used 180 grain in My 300 Wby when I first bought it. Biggest buck I ever killed shot it at35 yards. In the shoulder quartering to. Found the bullet under the skin offside ham. Perfect mushroom. Caught one in a big buck 35 cal. 225 gn. Shot in the chest found in skin on a ham again perfect mushroom. Neither blew up and both hit bone.

I load them exclusively in 308. I've shot everything up to elk with them. If I do my part, DRT. Usually don't recover the bullet, find 2" exit.
