Did 3 yrs in Europe. We called it "skunk beer". But it happened with most beers there. No preservatives. And for whatever reason would take on the odor of skunk. Never experienced that with any beer in the states, since they all use preservatives (even the European imports). A Bitburger here is not the same as a Bitburger over there. Not by a long shot.

When on a tight budget , I have been drinking whatever tastes best for the buck. Natty ice, Hamms, Red Dog, Boxer Ice. All 30-36 can cases for $11 -13 bucks, give or take.......

If I ever get far enough north to visit Mr. Jim, though, I'd certainly bring him a sixpack of this (and then send the empties back to the manufacturer with a claim that the beer was putrid, with a request for a refund).

The worst was Arizona Chilli beer. Ordered that at the old saloon in Oatman AZ, tried to pour it out and the ground would not drink it. Moose Drool is undrinkable.

No cold chain in beer in most of Europe, which makes a huge difference. Go to Aldi and get the discount beer that has sat in a hot warehouse, hot trucks, and hot stores for a month or two, and you get what you deserve.

Where I went to college, the Student Body operated it's own bar, with two 2,000 gallon beer tanks under neath..... we were about 30 minutes from the Heineken brewery, no skunkyness, ever. But, that was beer stored at about 52 degrees in a cellar environment, and 700 students DID go through some beer.

Ah, good times....

Grown to favor their ways after I began brewing my own. Good beer, something with flavor, should be consumed at room temperature. None of the big brewers in the US even come close.

+1 GOOD beer doesn't need to be cold, and many are better at room temperature.

I wont drink Miller Lite. I will drink about any other main stream beer. I just dont care for the taste. Not a huge beer drinker but I enjoy a cold beer.

Room temperature is a bit much, but it does need to be about 55 degrees before you can actually taste the stuff.

That said, I can't stand British or Irish beer. Much prefer the huge Belgian variety, dubbles, triples, etc. Some of the German stuff is good.

OK, I'll go along with you on the cool temperature; a lot of good German beers are "lagered" in cool caves or warehouses at that temp. The best brew I've made was a Munich style, brewed and aged in my cellar during the winter, when temps were around 55 degrees or so. So good, in fact, my brewing supply store encouraged me to enter it in a local contest; they said it was the best they had tasted. Unfortunatelly I was in the process of moving.
