Did Savage ever put a full buckhorn rear sight on factory model 99, or was it just Marlin and Winchesters? I have seen pics of 99'S with them on. This question may have been ask before.
Thanks, Onelost!

Didn’t the Savage Catalogs show/indicate which sights were available through the years?

There was no standard model that came with full buckhorn sights. There were a couple time where full buckhorns were available to buy or special order.
It's usually safe to say that full buckhorn rear sight is a replacement.

Closest you'd probably get is "There's a work order number associated with the entry". Or from Cody something like: "The line has a 4 digit number written on it".

$75 for non-members for a factory letter.
Member levels start at $150 and include some email/phone serial number searches, discounts on letters, etc. For $250 you get 2 factory letters and 10 serial number searches. For $150 you get 5 serial number searches and some kind of discount on factory letters.
If you just want the info, becoming a member for $150 gets you 5 searches. $30/each, not bad if they give you all the information. Maybe..

My Winchester Cody letters contained all of the information for a specific gun listed in the factory ledger which was presented in a straightforward manner. No personal touch or embellishment like JTC. If one is a Cody member, a photocopy of the actual ledger entry can also be requested (at the time I lettered a couple guns there was no additional fee for the photocopy).

a photocopy of the actual ledger entry can also be requested This would be great. You get the Historian's interpretation, plus the actual ledger entry. One can see exactly what is or is not in the ledger and can decide for yourself whether or not the Historian's interpretation is accurate and complete. There are some cryptic pencil marks in those books.

Photocopies are not supplied on a one-off letter request, one must be a member.

It would also alleviate that nagging doubt about whether they read the right line.. ya $250 US is 332 in Canuck coin,, can you give me the contact information?

I was going to put this in a new post but since the Cody letters came up here I'll add to them. I talked to Jessi the lady who does the Cody letters today. She says the ledgers Savage sent them only go to serial #436,558. She doesn't know anything about the later ledgers. I had emailed her about a letter on the rifle Ron Coburn gave me. I left Ron a voice mail asking if he knew anything about their whereabouts. No answer from him yet. Jessi and the curator Danny want me to come to Cody so they can pick my brain. "Throw me in dat briar patch, Brer Fox". Hopefully everyone here is familiar with the Uncle Remus tales and know what that means. I'll get to look at ledgers and stuff. Depending on the weather I hope to go over there in the next week or two. I don't need any more wrecks.

Glad to hear you were able to get them to let you in after I told you they turned me down. Be interesting to see what you find.

There are some perks to being a published author I guess. You'll be in that category pretty soon. They've been looking at my book and the ledgers and trying to get a better handle on the subject. They want to sit down with me and try to learn more. They are experts on Winchesters and some of the other long guns that they have lettering for a while but Savage is new to them.

Would be good to take pictures of known rifles then match them to the ledgers and info there.
Lettering a Winchester not much info in the books there, no ship to nothing of that nature
