Sad deal.
I’ve been reading about it since it happened. Lots of stuff has been posted on other forums. Mainly speculation, so I’ll hold my opinions until more facts are revealed. Weird story, but I’m not buying the old man “walked out” of the lake. Walked out? Doubtful, that's what cell phones are for. I've read this last part of the story posted here told many ways, not sure what, if any part of it is true. At best it has been Crabtree telling his story to a TBI detectice that has retold it to District Attorney Tommy Thomas, then Thomas supposedly re-telling it to a reporter then the reporter spinning what he believes he was told into a printable story. Sooooo, lots of room there for errors and enhancements. The stories scream of local rumor being spun in with a couple facts. For those that want to speculate, I'll throw you some bones. TBI Has had Walnut Logging RD. Off 157 Closed for days while they work on this investigation. Walnut Logging RD chases along the shore of the Upper Blue Basin section of Reelfoot Lake and ends at a boat ramp right where the Buzzard Slough section of Reelfoot Lake begins. Vowell docked his boat almost every day at Blue Basin Cove Lodge. The Lodge owner, Jerry Jones Jr. has been interviewed multiple times, says he's known Vowell for 40 years. All he's saying is that on the day of the murders Vowell put in and never came back. His lodge is where they towed Vowells truck and trailer away from. Blue Basin Cove Lodge is on the opposite shore of Upper Blue Basin that Walnut Logging RD. is on. Not one story has said where Vowell's boat was found other that "the lake". Nosed into shore some where? Adrift? Idunno. When authorities got to the scene of the murders Vowell was no longer there.

What if mr.vowell is a victim too? Yep. I was thinking the same thing. I’m not so sure about Crabtree. Oh come on... If that were the case Jeffrey Delane Crabtree might show up on a Tennessee Department of Corrections search lookin' like a big badazz and be on probation right now with restrictions of being around guns. But like Slumlord says, "Crabtree is a common name in them parts". From what I've seen some of those duck blinds are super nice, some even have kitchens and beds in them. Maybe the butler done it.

Sometimes when people are pushed into the water their cell phones get wet and don't work. It would seem to me that if the old man is alive and hasn't made his presence known, that he has something to hide. Beyond that, I am not going to speculate.

I'm sure if that phone was turned on, then they would know where he is ,or has been.

This ain't funny...but the name " Crabtree " in a story cracks me up... Pretty common down in here. Yeah, it sounds silly. Veronica Crabtree is the skank that drives the bus on SouthPark She moved from Tennersee all the ways up to Colorady??? Legal weed.

I liked the stories about Rancid Crabtree more than any other of McManus's stories.

I don’t believe he ask to hunt , I heard today they had been at odds since duck season started on the lake . Just not adding up I'm a little reluctant to copy and post this, but I have been reading this thread since the story came out. This was copied from Arkansas hunting.net . I have no idea of the validity of the story. It is my understanding that if you "draw" a blind and are not in it at "shooting light" , that blind is available to whoever first come, first serve. This kind of sounds what may have happened. "I read on another forum (only take as valid as it was said there to be valid) that it was said the ones shot and the shooter had a conflict about who was going to hunt the blind that morning. Per what was said, the older man was said to have had the draw to hunt the blind, but had not used it in a few days and was on his way to get in it to hunt right before shooting time, the victims, per what was said (again on repeating what was said) had been hunting the blind because the old man had not been using it, they were going to get in it again but saw the old man going to it, they then raced around the old man & got to the blind just as it was about to get to be shooting hours, claiming the blind away from the old man, who by the rules set up still had rights to the blind. As was said, an argument ensued, things must have went south, 1 old man vs several young guys. We know how it ended. I would expect (if info correct) the young guys never had their guns even out of their cases yet, while the old man, already mad & expecting a fight had his out & ready, might explain how it came to be. It's a sad & terrible deal, lose of life over a duck is hard to even comprehend, and it is just dumbfounding that it has gotten to this point now. Sad, Sad!!!!" https://www.arkansashunting.net/threads/shooting-at-reelfoot-lake.276357/page-2It's a long thread, and as has happened here a lot lately, it went South pretty quick. ???? So basically the young ones out boat raced the old man to the blind. Old guy got pissed, got their and whacked em Crabtree,s story got some holes in it . If any of this is true. Ducks....... Sooooooo worth it...... You wouldn’t understand. It’s a heck of a lot more fun than a deer drive through Slums backyard. You kinda act like a bleeder at times. Happy Trails Bob You most def have a reading comprehension problem. I would expect more from such an astute powers of observation member such as yourself. After all you are " Bob" the long time lurker then member outta the blue sockpuppet who knows so much about so many . Yet no one knows you.... LOL!!! Even though I have posted speculations and many others have also who you are. It's almost queer like with you " Bob". Be brave. Just leap outta that closet and do the big reveal on who you really are on the inside. Dont surpress it any more " Bob". Leap outta that closet man. Happy Trails... You know my 1st name.... It's a 4 lettter word. Loved by few Hated by many Wouldnt have it any other way!!!!! LMFAO!!!!

Jitterbug phones probably aint designed to be very waterproof either. Probably tested to bathtub warm water conditions. The "opps oh my I dropped my phone in the tub lab test"

I am not on the water but when I go for a walk in the mountains with the dog, if it looks like rain, I put my phone in a quart Ziploc bag. If you took a dunking in waist deep water that ziploc bag would certainly protect the phone for the minute or two it was under water.

I dunno. A Ziploc might be too complex for a boomer. Proly just wrapped in layers of Saran-wrap.
