I'd love to see the firedot duplex in the new 2.5-8.....
YES
First post, but long time reader.
I think they resist doing this due to just how compelling of a package it'd be. Why buy a VX5/6HD low power (1x-..., 2x-...) when you have a super light 2.5-8x36 with a firedot?
Unlike some of the other members here, I'm looking forward to these. I have a CZ527 in 22hornet with a B&C kevlar stock and a VX-5HD firedot 3-15x44. I got it NIB for a killer deal ($750), but I think it's a bit too much scope and weight for my applications. I wanna use it to hunt game under 150yds and predators/larger varmints under 200yds. It'll definitely be a walking gun. I think one of those 3.5-10x40mm scopes might be a better fit. Getting one, either the 30mm with firedot or the 1" with duplex, will save me between about 1/4lbs and almost 1/2lbs on my rig, respectively.
I also wanna echo everyone here about the VXR line. Amazing scopes for the money. Unmatched eyebox as well. I have a 3-9x40 duplex firedot and, I kid you not, to my eyes the coating they were using was a tad brighter than VX5HD past sunset. Setting both at 8x, the 40mm VXR was a bit brighter than the VX5HD side by side. Yeah, the 5HD had a bit more contrast and raw definition, but a supposedly inferior scope with a smaller objective shouldn't be able to go toe to toe with this thing.
I'm leaning towards the 30mm tube with firedot as it'll essentially be a VXR with HD lens coatings, a (hopefully) improved erector system, and an as-advertised magnification range (3-9 VXR was actually 3.3-8.7). What do you guys think?
