I got this old 8mm rifle with a full stock and they have a really svelte stock. Thing wears double set triggers and boy its probably the worst trigger known to man and it has small iron sights and a flipup leaf. Pretty nice looking small ring mauser but not sure what to do about that awful trigger.

Just wondering how common these were? Im a lefty so its not used by me but its nice to have an decent mauser type rifle example around from that era. Do any of you folks use one of these?

Best commercial Mauser ever built!!
Only 20-30.000 I belive.

It has some defects for as a practical scoped rifle, like the double triggers, safety and bolt handle.
So I chose the "newer" Brno ZG-47 which adresses those issues.

But you will be hard pressed to find a nicer commercial Mauser ever made!!

Enjoy it!

What's the beef with the set triggers? Is something wrong or broken? I've got a 22F in 8x57, love it.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

I have one in 7x57. I like the set triggers. As a hunting gun the only gripe I have is the safety is a little tough to get to in a hurry

I have the exact same Brno, and it is by favorite hunting rifle. I love the set triggers, but I think it would be quick and simple to drop in a Timney.

I have thought about this for several hours...the best solution is I send you 750 bucks plus shipping and my FFL...you send me the 22F.

Sure, cuz your triggers still work well. When they don't, the unset pull can be horrendous.

I've converted a few to use Timney triggers. You do have to modify the bottom metal, specifically in the bow where the timney trigger shoe will protrude. The original of course has two openings, one for each trigger shoe. The Timney sits in between both of those.

Yes thats exactly what it looks like except mine hasnt had the reciever tapped for scope mount bases.

Maybe ill open this old thing up and take a look at why the non set trigger is so horrendous. Surely it can be adjusted properly and ill get it done.

I wish rifles today had this level of attention where back in the 50's to early 60's it was a given and just the standard. These things feel like a wand compared to any wood stock rifle of recent manufacture.

For info: There's presently an active conversation concerning these fine Brno early postwar rifles in a Gunboards Forum.

https://www.gunboards.com/threads/brno-zg47-pinned.1182233/#post-10621449

Such there my outstanding request for information developing a profile of these rifles and their successor Brno Model ZG47, noted above. The GB reference includes this subject dating back to 2013, long and detailed yet producing many questions. For anyone with an active interest and or something to share concerning these rifles, my request that you visit that Site, below, contribute to the knowledge base in creating a useful profile. A prior contributor noted here, z1r with the hope he'll return to share his valuable expertise!
Disclaimer: No intent to highjack this Thread. Simply as noted, a historic effort of much discussion, now being rekindled.

I think the reason I ended up with this is that i always wanted a commercial Mauser type rifle and happened across this one. Even though im left handed i still like Mauser type actions and desired a specimen. You just dont run across them that often these days.

In addition to being Drilled and tapped, the bolt handle on mine has been lower and the stock cut to fit the bolt handle. It certainly reduces any collector value, but it's a better configuration for hunting. I got it stupid cheap and the work was already done, so I lucked out.

As far as the set trigger, I always use it as designed and never just use the un-set front trigger. It's as natural to me as cocking the hammer on a Marlin. If you really want a nice single trigger just cut the bottom metal out a little and put in a Timney.

Duh, yeah. I have Sharps, hi walls, and others with set triggers. This mauser needs some adjusting for sure. Until youd experiance it you wouldnt understand how heavy the pre set and the set trigger is. Both are heavy.

I have one in 7x57 that is like new, unfired and the unset trigger is maybe 5 or 6 lbs. The other in 8x57 has been around the block, the unset trigger is more like 15. The irony of that one is, I traded someone for the DST setup. They wanted a single trigger and I wanted a DST. Easy enough to rectify.

I've got two, a 7X57 and an 8X57. Both have heavy unset triggers which have not been an issue for me as setting the trigger is as natural as can be. But, if it were a problem and it sounds as though it is for you, I'd just install a single trigger. These rifles are at the top of the heap and should be used....whatever it takes to use them.

I have seen couple form 1950s. These could easily be lumped with original Mannlicher Schoenauers, and pre-WWII sporting Mausers from Oberndorf. My friend bought W.W. Greener from before WWII which is actually Mauser Type A made for W.W. Greener of Birmingham. Do not get me wrong, I would rather have German Greener but, the G47 compares quite favorably to that. The prices around here reflect that fact. Even lowly ZKK with CZJ scope bring respectable tag.

Have a 21H with the same double set trigger problem.. hard as heck to set with the rear trigger. Been looking for online adjustment but to no avail.

Weagle, has a truly perfect "modified" 22F....imho.

For me, they're too long and would need to be shortened.
The scope has to be mounted as low as possible, so.. you have to address the bolt handle issue.
The safety would need (want) to be changed to a 3 way wing type.
I much prefer a single trigger - stuff happens quick and I don't wanna be messing with a set trigger.

That said, I really admire the slim ergonomics and proportions of the stock and action.
They handle like a fine shotgun and their lines are elegant...to me.

I recently handled an F in 6.5x57. It was well used but not abused.
I sweated bullets over this one...especially one in 6.5...but there is just too much work to be done to justify.
