Just bought my second 99 in 243 Win marked 99M on the left side of the receiver ring .SN around the bottom of the receiver 1184XXX
Inspector stamp 16V 1968 ;Monte Carlo Stock w/pressed skip line checkering on stock and for arm ,grip cap is blk plastic w/crosshatch
lines ;butt plate is aluminum w/indian head ; sling swivels look like original .Trigger is gold plated and the bolt is damascened ;the gun has the improved trigger and cannot be slipped closed to the uncocked condition .LH side has the counter and the roter is aluminum or plated as it is white like aluminum.Barrel is 22 inch 243 win and has the boss at the rear sight ;sight was folding leaf .The receiver is D&T and has Weaver 2pc mount .No D&T on the tang ;tang saftey .When I cleaned the gun there was almost zero copper solvent stain on the patches .When I removed the butt stock there was zero sign of powder anywhere in the action .There were a few crusty chips that crumbled when touched ,possible wood chips ?This gun is very clean with some finish flaking at the butt plate .Metal is probably 98% and 90/95 % wood ;paid $ 350 I have serious doubts that it has been fired since it left the factory .

After reading Murray's book I think it is probably an "F" or a "DL", the younger guns in these two models seem to be identical
What model do think this gun is ?

Thanks
I think this is a super sight

That was a great description of a 99-DL in what appears to be great condition. If you take another look at Murray's book - it doesn't show the F with a monte carlo stock, also no swing swivels, and the folding leaf type sight did not appear until the early 70's on the F model. Plus the F models are usually marked on the right side of barrel.

It sounds like you got a nice 99 at a reasonable price. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
