Dad used some kind of concentrated bright orange liquid he would get from my grandfather on the King Ranch that was used on cattle and horses that got cut up. He would just pour it on the wound and send our asses back out to play. Always at least half a gallon around. A burning coal to cauterize the wound would have been less painful. Dad passed away Tuesday night. Wish he was here to pour some of that stuff now.

Betadine is the Kitchen Bouquet of the medicine cabinet. It's really dark brown.

That’s ok. I’m colorblind

Really.

Working in an auto salvage, you were bound to get cut and scuffed up, and almost always on dirty, greasy and rusty metal.
Whenever it happened, The Old Man would pour that damn merthiolate in the wound before either bandaging, or taking you for stitches if it was bad enough. Us boys would yell and scream, and he would laugh.
But the fact that the three of us survived without a serious infection is proof positive that the damn stuff worked!

We called it monkey blood, cause you screamed like a monkey when they put it on you.The other treatment was the old purple cow smear liniment you got when out at the barn on in the pasture. My poor kids wiil never have those memories and will be poorer for it.
