Along with some crappie fishing. Going out to Sam Rayburn the 3rd, 4th and fifth of February. Mostly going to look for acorns and sneak along creek bottoms. There is a big dock with slips on it that hold crappie this time of year we will have access to so they say we will catch plenty of crappie. This will be a tough one to divide out our fun on. That said I am using a pump 20 gauge. It has sights I mounted on the rib of the 26 inch Youth barrel that is sighted dead on at 50 yards with Winchester foster style slugs and will put them into 3 inches at that range. I tested the modified and a Turkey choke yesterday and the Turkey choke was a donut hole using an ounce of 6's while the modified made a nice even pattern at 35 yards with the same ammo which is Winchester game loads using 1oz of 6's. Backup rifle is a Marlin 22 magnum loaded with CCI FMJ's which I would not hesitate to head shoot a hog with. Trouble being if the squirrels and crappie cooperate not much time will be spent hog hunting other than incidentally while chasing the squirrels. I spend a lot more time hog hunting anyway the rest of the year.

I hope you have good luck RT300. Bring us back some stories. Be Well, RZ.

Sounds like a blast.
No hogs here (thankfully), but I have an O/U 20 in the works that would work for something like that. Once the first three days of deer season is over, concurrent hunting here is legal, as long as you wear the required amount of orange. Deer, bear, and SG could be options, depending on county; not sure about turkeys, which in my county can only be hunted for a week in the Fall.
What fresh Hell is this?

What a trip! Weather was a real pain especially the wind. It would be nice an quiet for a couple of hours and then the wind would pick up so hard it would wash the stringer right up on the bank! Didn't catch one crappie but the bass and the catfish were steady. The squirrels must have hated the wind because we only saw two. Both were a true slate gray color and we got them on the first morning. Browned them over a fire and then put them in tin foil smothered with cream of mushroom soup and put them on the edge of the fire for a couple of hours. They were great, going to have to do that again sometime. Going on another squirrel hunt Saturday, this one much closer to the house and the only distraction will be baiting the hog trap. I should have been doing this every year, glad my Grandson is old enough to go now, makes a lot of difference.

Sounds like an adventure. Thanks for the recipe idea. We used to do them in foil w. a clove of garlic and a sprig of rosemary in the chest cavity....

I killed a hog with a turkey load. Tight choked 3" 12 gauge 2 ounces of Hevi13 #6 at the base of the ear from 10 yards. Deader than Disco!

I shot three hogs while turkey hunting once but never squirrel hunting. Emptied the butt cuff on a single shot 20 gauge--#6 heavi shot I think. Finished one with a knife afterwards.
