Do you guys think the 17 WSM is here to stay? I currently own a Savage B-Mag Heavy Barrel. Not a fan of the gun, but I'm not about to pay the $1000 for the nice looking Ruger. Why haven't there been more rifle options produced for this caliber??

I'm looking for a 17 WSM and prices are way beyond the $1,000 mark for a Ruger. I had a Volquartsen semi auto but sold it due to the fact that it was likely the heaviest rifle I have ever tried to carry.

Savage, Ruger and Volquartsen are the only ones I know about, unless you get a custom built.

Higher pressure and tougher rim so it isn't a simple rechamber like 22 wmr to 17 hmr.

Mind breaking down your build for me? I might go this route as well. I sold my Bmag. It wasn’t for me. Then I sold my Ruger cause I wanted a shorter barreled new one. They seem non existent and jumped in price even at wholesale. Got 5k rounds and no rifle now. Think building might be the way to go.

I am waiting on Zermatt to get the bugs worked outta their RimX 17WSM. Should be in the next month or so. I will build it just like my RimX 22lr, except for no carbon barrel. Have the AG Privateer stock ordered, A LRTS in ARC M-10's and TT Diamond along with Hawkins M-5 bm are ready to go, and either a Lothar Walter 18" barrel or a Lilja if I can swing a shouldered prefit outta them. It'll look just like this...

LGS has several cases of Hornady on the shelf. Now to locate a nice rifle locally...The quest is on.

Actually one of the few calibers that I can still find ammo for.

Nice gun, and good pictures, and probably some fine shooting. But I must say: I don't really understand fully the killing for killing sake. Sparrows? Porcupines? You're not killing them for their market value. You're not going to eat them, I assume. Predators or varmints when they're destructive, no problem. But I have to confess, I don't get the other stuff. Maybe I'm just getting old and a soft. Sigh.

You're right. You DON'T get it..... You evidently have never had damage from birds, rabies from skonks, porky quills in your cows noses, invasive species, holes in your pastures and such.... Need I go on?....

Porcupines are one of the most destructive things going, ever seen what they will do to a deck, outbuilding or other wood structure they decide to start gnawing on? Sparrows, starlings and other invasive bird species should all be shot on sight, they are directly responsible for the decline of numerous native birds. Only issue I had with the pics was now I can't get Don's gun out of my head and can't stop thinking I need to put one together.

Well, all I can say is I grew up in New Brunswick with lots of sparrows, skunks, porcupines, coons, etc. Lots and lots. I know what happens when a dog or cow encounters a porcupine (mostly nothing, but when it gets ugly, it's not pretty, but not an existential threat to their existence). Sparrow invasions? Doves taking over my yard? Ya, I guess. But I've killed rabid foxes, skunks and racoons, and know they are the exception rather than the rule. Just because a few of them get sick and act badly doesn't mean they all deserve to die. Those doves in the pictures; were they a danger to something?

Come on. Really? We kill things sometimes, just because we can and to test ourselves as to how efficiently and from how far away we can do so. Let's be honest and not pretend that all of these creatures are dangers to us or our way of life and therefore deserve to die.
