Certainly with accurate shot placement and limited ranges they would kill deer and elk, assuming the marksman did their part and the rifle in question is of sufficient condition to have the required accuracy.
Honestly, there are much better choices for deer and elk rifles for reasonable prices on the used market. Even with today's ridiculous insane pricing and taking advantage.
Beware the man with one gun, for he likely knows how to use it...
