I'm looking for a new snowblower and looking at a Cub Cadet X2-26. Anybody have one or any other Cub model? What is you opinion of them? I have a Cub lawn tractor that's been doing strong for for several years now. Also have a Cub 4 cycle weed trimmer/brush cutter that's been excellent. What's your thoughts?

most likely made by mtd like their tractors. i had an 8hp 28" mtd blower and beat the piss out of it. it always started and threw snow good. i had to obama rig the chute after a few years because i was blowing gravel through it. i fabricated some of the plastic parts out of metal and it did the trick. i paid about 700 for it and ran it for 10 years or so and sold it for 300 and it ran as good as when i bought it. just kind of beat up.

I have a 24" model. Had to rebuild the gear box. They use a brass ring gear that eventually sheared off. I believe that is pretty common though.

I bought Pa a Cub Cadet 3X 28 inch five or six years ago. It flat out gets some snow moved. Pa is gone now , but I use the heck out of it. Still no issues with it. I only run rec fuel and change the oil every spring.

It was around 4 years old. I think the heavy drift from the snowplow was the culprit after while. I try to be more gentle now when hogging it out. Wasn't a big deal to replace gear if you're mechanical at all. Repair shops try and sell you the whole gearbox/axle assembly which is a lot more money.

I bought one of their zero turn mowers and I regret it. It doesn't cut well at all.

My dad just bought a Cub 30" model. He seems to like it fine.

I'd recommend moving where you don't need one.

I have the 3X-26. It does an impressive job. Plus it has handle warmers which are a nice touch.

Thanks tzone. I don't think I could ever live in a place where it doesn't snow often. I really enjoy the winter months. That doesn't mean I don't like visiting warmer climates now and then. Mostly at my wife's insistence!

I've had five snow blowers. I seized up the first too small a Toro and the 8 hp Toro had that wide chute and didn't do a good job and was way heavier than it needed top be. The Simplicity and the John Deere both have the 8 hp Tecumseh excellent though discontinued engine and the manual transmissions and rubber disc drive. Okay but not ideal. The star of the show is my 928 Honda with the hydro-static drive system and the wheels. Ariens blowers are made 30 miles from here and near everyone in the neighborhood has one. The big ones are okay, but the Honda will throw snow an honest 50' or more and the Ariens I'm seeing aren't able to get half of that.

My other auto is a .45

I have a 1996 Cub Cadet 1030 snowblower. When first starting in the fall usually starts on the second pull, after that starts on the first. In the spring I drain fuel the tank and run engine until tank is dry, change the oil and put away.

My drive is 175 ft. long and two cars wide for 40 ft. of that with an additional 40 ft. parking area. I have replaced the drive cable twice ($13 item) in all these years. Not bad IMO. Can't help with the new one but I would look close at them. What I like about this machine is that it is pretty simple.

I just did 14,000 sq ft of driveway. Two dudes run skidsteers and use the driveways but to get them to do anything above the call of duty is impossible. I was having to blow in front of me on a big stretch because of the wind. I was cutting snow deeper than the shroud on my machine. I wish they had a faster R2 reverse gear.
