Ahh!
A 788 in triple deuce. Maybe the pinnacle of gettin er done in the 60's.
Probably would cover most all our needs today, but we just want so much more. And that's OK too.

I have owned several 223's, nice round and nothing wrong with it. Always liked tye cheap ammo. I would choose the 222 just because I like it and I am set up good for the 222. The short barrel on the. Model 600 is a little loud but it shoots good.
Just because you're offended doesn't mean your right.

I’m an over achiever, 222mag here. Use the 223 a good bit too in an AR for a behind the seat of the pickup rifle.
Probably my most used bullet is the 55gr Hornady SP but I have and use a bunch of different brands from 40-77gr. It’s an ever evolving experiment with lots of pork test subjects.
For powder I use CFE223, Lever, 335, 748, I’m not picky though I like ball powders for going through the measure.

One .222, a 788, purchased in 1967 the week they hit the market, one of 4 the lgs got....2 in .22-250 and 2 in .222. By the time I got there 10:00 Saturday morning the .22-250's were gone. It was my first "real varmint rifle." Still have it, but don't use it much anymore. Now it wears a 3 - 10 Nikon Monarch that came with a Ruger #1 .308 I bought. (I replaced that scope with a 1.5-5 Leupie that is a much better fit for the rifle and purpose.) That 788 served me well in my younger years just before and after my military service. I killed a lot of woodchucks and crows with it and some deer.
4 .223's one a Remington 700 XCR/CTR that sees more use as a deer rifle than anything. The others are AR's, two of which are actually 5.56's and one of which is a .223, a Les Baer Super Varmint.

I used to have a Rem 788 and loaded Sierra 50gr blitz and Hornady 50gr SX and slam jack rabbits. My 223/5.56's won't shoot them, they blow up on the way to the target most times, unless yer rifle has a slow twist. Most 1-9's are even to fast unless the barrel is smoother than a babies azz.
I would have got him too but a Dad Blam snow flake hit me in da eye....

Wish it was a 7 or 8 twist instead of a 9 but I make due.

Good to see the Model 788 triple-deuces still getting it done. I have one also. Wears a Leupold 16X. It likes 50 grain ballistic tips.

I remember many years ago seeing a Colt AR15 at a gunshow chambered in .222. I think it was a French overrun because civilians couldn't own guns in a military caliber. I should have bought it...just because. Interesting and sounds like a great collectible. I had no idea that any AR manufacturers much less Colt ever made an AR chambered in .222

My first centrefire was a .222 in a Winchester model 70, one of the most accurate rifles I've owned. Wish I'd kept it.

I always wanted at least one .222 and I settled on a custom built on a RickyTicky by Dennis Olson. I believe it's a #2 Douglas finished @ 19". It shoots as good as it looks:

I am another member of the over-achievers club with a Remington 722 in 222 mag. With 50 gr v-max it will shoot ragged one hole groups if I can do my part. Love that old rifle!!

3 Sako's in .222 and a Remington 722 .222 A Dakota and Savage tactical in .223 A Sako .222mag and last in .222 All shoot 40 or 50 grainesr very well except the fast twist Savage shoots a 68gr .222 seems to be my go to caliber inside of 300...just fun to shoot and they are easy to work up accurate loads for IMO.
