Don't believe that's walnut... I thought the W designation was walnut. It is what it is I guess. This is hardwood. The easy way to tell is real walnut will have a bullseye.

Good luck with the sale! Thanks. I compared it to another that I have and the stud appears to be top dead center on the bullseye.

Brand loyalty.
So customers could spot a Marlin on a wall rack full of rifles.

It is my opinion the bullseye was made to let the purchaser have a good spot to put the sling stud in.
The white dot .........with out a stud....might spook the thurty point buck!

The bulleseye was put on walnut stocked Marlins to signify such. A quick check of 336 w features include hardwood stock...plus it doesn't look anything like walnut.Not taking away from the rifle,pretty much all I deer hunt with in spite of having a dozen "better" deer guns.
