I am convinced there were pro-Trump protestors at the capitol that day. I am also convinced the violence was orchestrated by antifa people who were bussed into the capitol for that purpose. There are videos showing five buses escorted by black suburbans with flashing lights like law enforcement vehicles. All the vehicles have blacked out windows.

And given that he was speaking in a public venue with no reasonable assumption of privacy, he was obviously not concerned if the conversation was overheard.
