Who here has had a failure with a Talley Lightweight scope mount? Where did they fail? How did they fail?

Probably about the same percentage of 700 bolt handle and trigger failures.

Best I can recall,is (8) LW Pukes for me thus far, though they have been removed from Service as a whole. Have had 'em Puke most everywhere,be it "base" or "ring" proper, less rhyme or reason, but I admittedly shoot a "smidge" and Trigger Time is tougher on wares than Safe Queen Fondling. Hint.

Everything from 223 to 7 Whizzum, with multiple stops in between and all 1". A 1913 interface with copious ring spacing, has no structural equal, assuming good fasteners, welds or integral construction. Hint.

I've never had a 700 bolt failure, though have shot wellllllllllll over 1000 pounds of powder through same. OEM triggers levers are tender. Hint.

You've been led to water.

Thank me later.

One failure for me and witnessed two more failures of friends. One at a big cost, a 180+ mule deer on a paid hunt. The guy is a farmer/rancher from my neck of the woods and lurks here occasionally. Maybe I could convince him to elaborate, but he aint the elaborating type. The other two failures were at no cost. I will never trust them, as designed.

Never an issue.

That said I do not use my rifles as a javelin.

I've had two crack, both on the same rifle. Top part of ring cracked. Rifle lived a hard life in an ATV scabbard that was used everyday on the farm. Perhaps it was my fault for tightening to much or the receiver may have been off a little......maybe, but the same rifle has been used for a lot of years with DNZ mounts and currently a rail/rings with no problems.

I so want to use them on a couple of rifles to save weight and get a low height but I can't bring myself to trust them.

I have Talley lightweights on five rifles and have used them since Talley introduced them. I had a failure last year where the airline broke a ring while the rifle was in an SKB hard case. It was the SKB lightweight single rifle case. I bought a new new rifle case, it wasn't a ring issue.

I fell hard last year while skirting a mountain and slide a ways. Never occurred to me to recheck zero and when I finally did it was spot on.

I had the top strap crack and completely break on a T3 Varmint in .300 WM. Happened on a western deer hunt but luckily I filled my tags before it completely let go. I contacted Talley and they promptly replaced the mounts but that didn’t help with my new lack of confidence in their LW alloy rings. I still use them on all my Tikkas...hoping the odds of a repeat failure are slim to none.

The Chinese made Burris XTR rings that Big Stink now uses have substantially more mass.

Substantially more robust, with a feature set that no other ring offers, too.

I don't care what feature set they offer, there are way to many quality options made in the USA to buy Chinese made rings.

Fair enough. For me the feature set is non-negotiable.

I can't recall how many now. I've had cracked top straps, easily recognized, and cracked bases which are harder to see. I only have a set or two still in use and they are on lightweight rifles with very little recoil.
