For me it’s drop test.. 4 times at about waist high.
Wringing the nuts off the turrets checking return to zero.
Then 20 mil high, 5 mil left and right tall target test checking return to zero and click value accuracy

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I thought I saw a video of a test where a gentleman threw is out across a frozen pond. That's one I would certainly do if ponds ever froze over down here.

Thanks ya bastids.. blew out my tea all over the phone. I have three tests. I hit the scope three times with a 20 oz. crowbar. Immediately after that, I hook it up to a 240 volt plug in the basement and run current through it for 3 minutes. The final test is baking it at 300 degrees in a toaster oven for 7.5 minutes. I remove it, let it cool and check the turrets. If it works after my tests, I keep it. Usually however, I return what's left and answer the questions from customer service about what the hell happened. I stopped dousing them with gasoline and setting them on fire after my wife complained about the smell.

That has the best scientific method of any of the tests I have seen conducted. I wish our ponds froze over and that Lurch was my personal videographer.

I buy a decent quality scope. Mount it properly. Sight it in. Go hunting. That’s worked for 50 years.

I had a couple lose zero last Fall, not necessarily “fail”, on “challenging” platforms. Funny part is how both happened suddenly, without warning. So when they jump, it can be while testing, while practicing, or when you fire that last round confirming your zero before you go hunting. Might just be that all that scientifically-applied abuse just hastens the day when one goes TU. Testing tracking on ones that will be dialed makes perfect sense. One guy on YouTube beats them with a full water bottle. At least that doesn’t scratch them.

I like to run my new scopes Through the washer with a spin cycle and then a good dryer run that’s when I put scent killer on them as well.

...One guy on YouTube beats them with a full water bottle. At least that doesn’t scratch them. That's an incomplete test. You can use the water bottle if the water is frozen. The water type and amount has to be exact. The water has to be distilled and the water bottle has to be an approved design. Mil spec works. I like to run my new scopes Through the washer with a spin cycle and then a good dryer run that’s when I put scent killer on them as well. To bring your test up to the industry standard, add one 6 inch leather doggy chew toy for every 3 power of magnification, selecting heavy duty, small load cycle, of course. For example, a 3-9 scope would have three - six inch chew toys.
