First time I heard him was shortly after the 1988 election. Michael Dukakis had just lost to George H.W. Bush. Dukakis’s wife had just been admitted to a rehab facility for a drinking problem. Rush said that it was better for the country for one person to be drinking because he lost the election than for the whole country to be drinking if he had won! R.I.P. sir.

My father introduced me to Rush while on a ride-along in his patrol car in 1985. KFBK out of Sacramento - Rush's second year in CA. I was 10 y.o.
Was a fan from day one. Mostly because my father was. Listened a lot, because my father did. But as I grew older I understood why.
RIP, Rush.

He lied all day every day about everything, and played you guys for decades. He obviously didn't believe what he said, but knew he'd get rich lying to you numbskulls. Not rejoicing over his death, but I'm sure the world is better off without him in it. I was driving. Heard his wife come on and make the announcement (how she did that ... and say what she said with such grace and composure ... I’ll never know). My eyes started to tear-up and I had to pull over into a bus stop. I said a prayer for him ... right then and there.
