Many years ago while working near Kaktovik, Ak I had the opportunity to try muktuk, when asked how I enjoyed it I respond "not so much", the local replied " you should have put A-1 sause on it". I don't think it would have improved the flavor much.

And instead, they made A1. made by british , what do you expect ? Sold from 1861 as a condiment for meat or game dishes in the United Kingdom,
Is it just HM sauce under a different label? They look the same... Assume you mean HP Sauce, and no. They are not similar.

I assumed it was fresh because very few would put aged muktuk anywhere near their faces. But you did...

Boiling food is a great way of cooking in UK. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A.1._SauceInteresting I got the name wrong it's HP sauce after House of Parliment...which is now made in nederland.. But A1 is still made in the UK... Sorry SD, I followed PD's link before changing pages... How would you describe the two flavors since the are both tomato based " Brown sauce"?

I wanted to show that I respected the old Inuit guys who were offering it to me, so down it went! When in Canada's Northwest Territories, I did the same thing when offered the contents of a reindeer stomach that had been buried in the ground to ripen by a family group of Slavey. Whoooooeeee! John

Both are sweet and acidic (vinegar) but A1 is bland compared to HP, IMO. HP has actual flavors beyond just sweet. I find HP far superior.

John Ate a clam from a walrus stomach and it was not bad... so I won't point fingers.
