I was about 6 years old and as I exited the school bus at home I saw our veterinarian, Dr. Parker was in our barn lot.
They had a young stallion sedated and tied up on the ground for a castration. I asked "Whatcha doin', Doc?"
Doc replied, "I'm taking out his tonsils!" as he threw the colts testicles over his shoulder.
Fast forward a few weeks, I've got a bad sore throat. My folks take me to the family doctor.
They didn't understand why I was so hostile about the idea of having my tonsils removed!
BTW I still have 'em!
Always drink upstream from the herd...cowdoc...

Got one. The other one got removed along with the lymphnodes it was attached to about 20 years ago.

Am 68, and had "tonsillitus" more than once as a young kid. Apparently my parents didn't feel like spending whatever amount of money was involved then (I was their first child), but did with my three younger siblings--all of whom not only got their tonsils out but the typical post-operative ice-cream treatment, which kind of pissed me off.
Apparently I do have a pretty good immune system, which is what "medical science" eventually decided tonsils are all about. Ha Ha, "Ice cream treatment".  I know it well enough from a couple of trips for the "croup", O2 tent and all. Ice cream............. and jello. At least the old man wasn't forcing me to clean my plate of nasty old canned green or lima beans. Still have my tonsils though.

I lost mine at three in 1950 when my dad was going to law school at Boalt Hall and my mom was a nurse at UC Berkeley's Medical Center. Chopping them off was free, so mine were cut.

No, born in 53 & lost tonsils by 63. Throat/ear problems throughout most of my first 50 years & they said part of a tonsil still there or grown back. Thought I was gonna have to go in again, but other procedures helped.
