Mine is on a Rem 700 Long action.... with a Pac Nor barrel in a heavy magnum contour, with a one in 7 twist..

it was done by John Noveske before he got famous... its my most accurate rifle...

and on a long action, its closer to a 240 Weatherby than it is to a 243... you can seat that bullet out there, and achieve the same thing you are doing with a Creedmoor in a Short action....

my three main loads...

75 Hornady HP with H 414.... 3650 fps..

95 Ballistic Tip with ReLoader 19..... 3300 fps or so...

115 gr Berger Match HP.. with Reloader 19....3250 fps...

all of those with the bullet seated to magazine length, its a real flat shooting rifle...

Bell & Carlson Stock.....

bought the Model 700 LA back in 1979, from Sears with a 30/06 barrel on it...

I replaced the trigger, as it was one of those Remingtons that managed to go off on its own, more than once...

The same case can be used on my favorite round... 6.5 x 57, which I have on a long action Model 70 with a 28 inch barrel in heavy magnum contour also..

Brass on both of those rifles... I use Winchester 6mm REM Brass for the Model 700...
and neck up 257 Roberts +P brass for the 6.5 x 57...

The 6MM REM compares to the 243 WIN like the 280 REM compares to the 270 WIN like the 260 REM compares to the 6.5 CM like the 30-30 compares to the .32 WS, etc., etc., etc.

IOW, what one will do the other will do at least 90% as well, the primary difference being that there are a lot more rifles chambered in 243, 270, 6.5 CM, and 30-30 than in 6MM, 280, 260, and 32 WS, and factory ammo for them is much more common and more widely distributed.

In 2021 there are a couple dozen "easy" cartridges available to the American buyer/user, leaving the rest redundant and some of them "cool".

The 6mm is faster than the 243, has a longer case neck and better shoulder angle. If you're not averse to a long action, it's a great cartridge.

If there is a 2 to 3 grain case capacity difference between the 243 WIN and 6MM REM, how much more velocity is possible if all of the controllable variables are equal?

The 6MM REM does have a longer neck and a better shoulder angle, but aren't most factory built rifles in 6MM REM built on short actions?

I killed well over 100 deer with a model 700, 6mm. I used only the 100-grain Interlock and never had one issue. The rifle has since been turned into a .260 and is a great deer killer. The .243 wins the 6mm race, only because it handles a standard short magazine better. You can get a bit better velocity with the 6mm, using some of the high-speed new powders.

I just built a 6mm on a long action. Even a 243 is better in a long action if running 115's etc.

One of my best friends used a Remington model 600 with the 18 inch barrel for years and years. We all have him he’ll about shooting a BB gun but he killed well over a 150 deer with that gun. He would only use one bullet- the 100 grain Sierra Game King-he swore by that Bullet.

My 243 with 115's is longer than 2.800". 🙄 If you want to run short bullets, knock yourself out.

I killed lots of whitetails and coyotes/fox with a Rem 788 6mm and handloads with h4831, ww760, imr 4350
!00gr Hornady Interlocs, 95gr Noslers, 105gr Speer sp's, all one shot. I loved that rifle.
It was so accurate I quit using chest shots & and started using neck and head shots when I could.
Owee the guys at camp were testy, most figured it was a varmint rifle, Not enough woomph for a deer LOL.
Then i took a few shoulder shots just to shut em up, still dropped em like struck by the hammer of thor.

I would have got him too but a Dad Blam snow flake hit me in da eye....

I took your post to mean the 243 is better than the 6MM Rem in a long action if running 115's. My mistake. Pick the pipe up again. That said short bullets do have their place.

Think my 6mm runs 90gr BTs at 2.9” - as it’s an 09 Argentine that’s fine. I’d love one in an M700 with a Wyatts box but frankly I have so much 243 brass I can’t be bothered

I started using a 6mm in 1976 for deer with 100gr Hornady Interlocks over 44.5gr IMR4831. I switched over to the 100gr Sierra with 45.0gr AA3100 and finally 45.5gr RL19. I killed my share of deer over the years with 6mm's.

Umm after doing the same, with both the 243 and 6mm Remington....Still have the 6mm Rem.. 1 in 7 twist...

Dogcatchers is speaking the truth on that one...

Think of the same solution to a problem the Supposed Creedmoor is solving...

Did the sane thing putting a 260 Rem Barrel on a Long Action 700, and throating it out to have the load round fit the magazine length...

it perked up the max velocity noticeably...

My short action 260 would definitely be better if it were a long action especially if I wanted to use match bullets. Still though it is doing very well with all hunting bullets tried so far. My 243 is a Savage 110 long action but it is a single stack magazine, the mag box for 30-06 length cartridges would not work with 243 shells very well so I put a short action mag box in it. Still longer than a 700 short action.
