I purchased one of the Mauser M12 Impact rifles for my son to give him as a graduation present later this year. I want to set it up as a do all rifle that will last him for a long time. The plan is to keep it fairly light for the type of mountain hunting we typically do here in PA. I ordered a set of talley lightweight low mount/rings to use in place of the included rail to help keep it light. The last item needed to complete the rifle is a scope. I was thinking a 3-9x40 leupold VX2 would be about perfect for this rifle since it is a solid scope and again relatively lightweight. I plan on spending $250-300 on the scope. I have been looking at Weaver Grand Slam 3-10x40, Sightron S2 3-9x42 and possibly a Nikon Monarch as possible scope options. I still have a little time before I need it so I have just kept my eyes open for a deal right now. Two questions for the campfire members: Are there any other scopes I should be considering? Has anyone seen any deals on any of these scopes recently that I should be checking out? Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 with Balistic Plex reticle.

I put a 3-9x40 Loopy on my M12 6.5x55 but later swapped it for the smaller Swaro 3-9x36. Fantastic little scope. But it is probably more than you want to spend.

I mounted a Meopta Meopro 6X42 that I purchased here. I'll bet someone has a 3-9 they'd part with. You might consider a used Zeiss Conquest as well.
