I put a PSA kit together to use with a can. Other than a LaRue trigger I left it as is.

It's been great, even with crappy steel cased Wolf ammo.

The Premium uppers with CHF barrels are actually kinda nice.

That's a good buy. If I was the OP, I'd jump on that. One mag or two?

LGS has two on the shelf for that price. Don’t know if they have anymore in the back or not.
That’s a good price for those these days?

Might check out aimsurplus.com. I just got an email flyer and they are advertising an Anderson Manufacturing one for $549.95. Can't speak to the quality, but that's the cheapest I've seen.

It's pretty hard to get a handle on what a good price is during these troubled times. If I wanted or needed one, I'd jump on it for that price. I don't know what they had crept up to before the latest round of craziness started.

I bought both of mine years ago, during a lull between panics. I didn't get in on the lowest point though. I want to say I paid up around $500 for the DPMS and maybe $50 more for the S&W. Neither of mine came with sights.

The thing to bear in mind about these guns is...Very few types of guns right now are immune from this latest panic. There are places sold out of cowboy action shooting guns...hardly ultimate self-defense guns. Guns like lower level AR's are probably THE most in demand right now, along with CCW types, service pistols and self defense shotguns. If the panic ended tomorrow, maybe in three months you could get one for $600. If I thought there was a remote chance I'd need the gun, I wouldn't worry about a couple of hundred bucks.

Which AR’s are CL and how much difference does it make?

Anderson's know to have some issues. It's best to limit use of their products to stripped uppers, stripped lowers, and they 80% stuff, i.e. the things that are hard to screw up.

I have built 5 PSA AR15s and one PSA AR10. No problems at all. I shoot then suppressed and not. When i got mine, I have about $350 for 16" SS barrel AR15s and about $450 for a 16" AR10. Both of those prices include the price of a stripped lower. Their kit prices have increased and I sold 4 of the 15s in the $800 range. I am sure the Ruger and S&W guns are fine, but I never saw the point in paying more. If I want an AR to reach out and touch something with I have a Colt HBAR with a 20" Model 1 bull barrel and Jewell trigger. Lights out at 300 with 75 grain ballistic tips. The PSA's do fine to 200 and never miss a beat.

Regards,

Kris

I have a Del-Ton upper. I have had it probably 10 years now. It works every shot. I have no complaints.

Bear Creek Arsenal might be worth a look.

Just looked it up, my PSA EPT Nitiride Shokwave pistol kit was a whopping $389 in 2019. To me, it's a kick ass little blaster. I wish I would have had the foresight to buy ten, with primers.... PSA Freedom rifles were a good bang for the dollar IIRC

By the looks of things, it's no time to be overly picky or frugal. I have sourced pieces for 5 AR builds in the past couple of months, being exclusive to exactly each desired part would have likely netted zero...

The best AR I ever shot is a frankenstein I put together. Bushmaster lower, PSA upper, 20" heavy FN chrome lined 1:7 barrel. It looks like a Colt HBAR. I put 9 shots into 1.25" at 100 yards with iron sights off a bench using 55 gr. bulk Winchester soft points and a max load of 748. Love that gun. I also have a S&W M4gery that is pretty good, and built a few from PSA kits that have been good too. These days it seems like they have the AR platform pretty dialed in. That said, if I were looking for a semi-auto rifle right now, and wanted to buy cheap ammo for it, it would be an AK. The ammo is half the cost of .223. I've had good luck with a Century RAS47.
